Nobu Manchester Breaks Ground with Robert De Niro at Recent Ceremony
Nobu Manchester Breaks Ground
In a momentous event for both Manchester and the Nobu brand, Robert De Niro, Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, and Meir Teper gathered at the Nobu Manchester site to celebrate its groundbreaking. This project, in collaboration with property developer Salboy, signals the start of a new chapter for luxury hospitality in the UK, marking Nobu's first endeavor beyond London.
A Landmark Project
The new development is poised to be a 246-metre tower, expected to be the tallest building outside of London once completed in 2031. It will house a signature Nobu restaurant, a luxury 160-room hotel, and 452 branded residences. This ambitious project occupies a prime location on a historically significant brownfield site in the heart of Manchester, which is undergoing considerable regeneration.
The tower will blend the city's rich industrial heritage with modern luxury. The restaurant, set to open on the ground floor, will be nestled under original Grade II listed Victorian viaduct arches, offering diners a unique ambiance.
Celebrating Culinary Heritage
Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, known for his inventive approach to Japanese cuisine, expressed excitement about bringing his culinary vision to Manchester. Nobu's history dates back to 1987 when the chef opened his first restaurant, and the brand has since expanded globally, now operating over 50 restaurants worldwide. The anticipated Nobu Manchester promises to deliver the same exquisite dining experiences found at Nobu locations globally, infused with local influences.
Fred Done and Simon Ismail, co-founders of Salboy, praised the project as a transformative initiative for Manchester's skyline and local gastronomy. They highlighted their ambition to instigate a renaissance in hospitality, further enhanced by Nobu's renowned brand.
Nobu Residences: A New Chapter in Luxury
The Nobu Residences Manchester will introduce Nobu's luxury living concept to the UK market. These residences are designed to incorporate refined Japanese aesthetics and will offer unparalleled amenities including a private swimming pool, a podium garden with skyline views, and exclusive access to Nobu's dining experiences.
The project reflects a seamless fusion of sophisticated living with the vibrant culture of Manchester. Salboy is collaborating with award-winning designers Bowley James Brindley to ensure that the interiors resonate with both Nobu’s elevated living ethos and Manchester’s unique industrial character.
The Vision for the Future
The groundbreaking event highlighted the significant partnership between Nobu Hospitality and Salboy, aimed at creating an iconic destination that represents the progressive spirit of Manchester. As construction plans advance, the Nobu team looks forward to unveiling this landmark development, offering both global travelers and local residents a premium hospitality experience.
Fred Done remarked, “This is our pièce de résistance—exactly what we wanted to bring to Manchester, the city of firsts.” The project not only aims to provide extraordinary culinary and luxury experiences but also to cement Manchester's status on the global luxury hospitality map.
The construction of Nobu Manchester is anticipated to commence shortly, with property sales expected to launch in 2026. This project encapsulates the bold ambitions of both Nobu and Salboy, who are not merely constructing a building but rather elevating the living experience in Manchester.
As Manchester welcomes this new chapter, both locals and visitors alike eagerly await the opportunities that Nobu Manchester will bring, further enriching the city’s cultural tapestry.
