Michter's Distillery Set to Launch 2026 Editions of Two Iconic Whiskeys

Michter's Distillery, located in Louisville, is poised to delight whiskey enthusiasts this April with the release of its highly anticipated 2026 editions of two legendary whiskeys: Shenk's Homestead Kentucky Sour Mash Whiskey and Bomberger's Declaration Kentucky Straight Bourbon. Limited in quantity, both whiskeys are a part of Michter's Legacy Series, which reflects the distillery's rich history that dates back to 1753 when Swiss Mennonite farmer John Shenk established Shenk's Distillery in Pennsylvania. This operation later evolved into Bomberger's Distillery during the 1800s and ultimately became Michter's Distillery in the mid-20th century.

Joseph J. Magliocco, President of Michter's, expressed the production team's excitement for the releases, stating, "Each year our production team looks forward to working on these special releases. They truly highlight the creativity of our distillers." With every release possessing unique characteristics due to ongoing experiments within the distillery, 2026 is set to uphold this tradition.

Describing the 2026 Shenk's release, Michter's Master Distiller Dan McKee emphasized the use of caramel malted barley, which adds a delightful caramel bread pudding note. Coupled with a hint of rye, this creates a beautifully balanced whiskey experience. The barrels utilized in this release include both 24-month air-dried French oak from the Vosges forest and 60-month air-dried American oak, enhancing the whiskey's character.

Furthermore, Andrea Wilson, Michter's Master of Maturation, underscored the collaborative effort behind the crafting of Shenk's and Bomberger's. She highlighted the importance of exploring various elements such as aroma, flavor, and complexity to enhance overall drinking enjoyment.

For the 2026 Bomberger's Declaration, the hallmark Chinquapin Oak has been augmented by Hungarian Oak. This combination creates rich chocolate decedence paired with the traditional cherry and spice attributes found in Chinquapin. Both types of oak were carefully seasoned and air-dried for three years with custom toasting and charring to ensure a distinctive flavor profile.

Shenk's Homestead carries a proof of 91.2 (45.6% ABV) and is priced at a suggested retail of $110, while Bomberger's Declaration boasts a higher proof of 108 (54% ABV) with a retail price of $120.

Recently, in October 2025, Michter's earned the prestigious title of "The World's Most Admired Whiskey" for three consecutive years, as determined by an international voting academy organized by Drinks International in the UK. This accolade underscores Michter's enduring legacy of producing top-tier American whiskeys of uncompromising quality.

The distillery's carefully curated portfolio features an array of highly acclaimed products, including bourbon, rye, sour mash whiskey, and American whiskey, each aged to perfection.
