VSCO's The Fifty: Celebrating Photographic Talent Across America
VSCO, a widely recognized photography platform, has recently unveiled the final 25 photographers selected for its ambitious project titled
The Fifty. This initiative not only honors one photographer from each U.S. state but also aims to elevate their visibility through billboards and large-format public displays. By celebrating these talented individuals, VSCO seeks to create opportunities that can significantly impact their careers.
A Broad Spectrum of Talent
The selection process for The Fifty was incredibly competitive, with over
13,500 submissions received—the largest call in VSCO's history. The final 25 photographers reflect a rich diversity in disciplines, backgrounds, and career stages. Among them, noted works include Bob Miller's poignant exploration of generational knowledge fading from family farms, and Cielito Mercado's artistic examination of how food and family recipes help preserve cultural identity.
Photographers, such as Indiana's Jingyin Che, delve into self-portraiture to express themes of belonging, while wedding photographer Emma Bostwick captures movement and nostalgia through her intimate images. Each of these artists brings a unique perspective, showcasing how photography documents the nuances and challenges of modern life.
Bringing Photography to the Streets of Miami
As Miami gears up for the prestigious Art Basel Miami Beach in December, VSCO is launching its exhibition right in the heart of the city. Commencing November 6, the photography platform will host a
four-week wheatpaste poster exhibition at 20 different locations. Accompanying this showcase will be a campaign featuring billboards that highlight the exceptional talents of these selected photographers.
Eric Wittman, the CEO of VSCO, expressed the company's mission: “For 15 years, VSCO has championed photographers, giving them the tools and community to develop their craft and help them grow.” This initiative represents a crucial step forward as it places photographers’ works in front of potential clients and brands, all in pursuit of turning this visibility into tangible growth opportunities.
The Celebration Continues
In addition to the exhibition, VSCO will be hosting several community events, slated to engage the public and foster creativity within the artistic community. One key event on
November 7 will showcase local photographer Nat Segebre—who represents Florida in The Fifty—joined by fellow photographers Melina Deya and Deun Ivory. The three will engage in conversations about their journeys in photography, discussing the hurdles they've overcome and their defining moments.
Moreover, an exciting
Exhibition Party is set for
November 9, providing a platform for photographers to network and celebrate their craftsmanship.
Promoting Visibility and Opportunities
The Fifty is not just an exhibition but a robust affirmation of the creative spirit that thrives across various communities. From established professionals to emerging talents, this project embodies the belief that every photograph tells a story—one that deserves to be seen and valued.
As the campaign rolls out, VSCO invites everyone to explore the full spectrum of talent represented in The Fifty. For those eager to learn more about these remarkable photographers and their works, updates are available at
