October Marks the Start of One Warm Coat's Annual Campaign to Share Warmth

Share the Warmth: Join One Warm Coat's Annual Campaign

As the colder months approach, many people are reminded of the importance of staying warm, especially those living in poverty. Currently, about 37 million Americans find themselves in such circumstances, and the need for warm coats has never been greater. This October, the nonprofit organization One Warm Coat is launching its annual campaign, encouraging everyone to clean out their closets and donate gently used outerwear.

About One Warm Coat

Founded in 1992, One Warm Coat is a national nonprofit dedicated to providing free coats to individuals in need while fostering community involvement and promoting environmental sustainability. Over the years, the organization has successfully conducted over 63,000 coat drives, benefiting more than 9.3 million people. In partnership with 2,000 nonprofit organizations, One Warm Coat distributes approximately half a million coats annually.

This initiative doesn't just aim to protect against the cold; it also emphasizes the importance of sharing and community connection. As Beth Amodio, the President and CEO of One Warm Coat, highlighted: "Every coat that is donated represents a moment of warmth, kindness, and connection."

The Importance of the Cause

With the harsh realities facing millions, One Warm Coat urges everyone to participate in their coat drive this season. The estimated number of people facing the winter without adequate outerwear underscores the urgency of this mission. In just ten years of partnership with J.Crew, they have provided warmth to over 826,000 individuals, marking a tangible impact in communities across the nation.

This year, J.Crew is participating again from October 14 to December 31, collecting coats across its 117 locations. Donating a coat not only helps someone in need but also offers donors an incentive; they will receive $25 off their next purchase of $125 or more.

National Share the Warmth Day

One of the highlights of this campaign is National Share the Warmth Day, taking place on October 20 this year. Sponsored by Carhartt and The Weather Channel, this day focuses on raising awareness about the importance of providing warmth to those in need. As part of this celebration, Carhartt has pledged a $50,000 donation to ensure that 50,000 children and adults receive the coats they urgently require this winter.

How to Get Involved

If you're interested in participating, consider these methods:
1. Donate a Coat: Whether it’s through J.Crew or any of the other brands participating in coat drives, your contribution is crucial. For example, Mackage, Cotopaxi, Lands' End, and Carhartt all have specific timelines and incentives for donors this October and November.
2. Organize a Coat Drive: Holding a coat drive in your community is easier than you might think. Simply plan, promote, collect, and then deliver the coats. One Warm Coat provides resources to help streamline this process, including customized webpages and promotional materials.
3. Make a Financial Donation: Every dollar donated to One Warm Coat allows them to provide warmth to one more person. Contributions of any size are appreciated and help extend their reach further.

Conclusion

As we welcome cooler weather, let’s not forget those who may find themselves struggling to stay warm. Join One Warm Coat in this important mission—donate a coat, organize a drive, or make a financial contribution. Together, we can share warmth and support our communities, ensuring that everyone can thrive, even in the coldest months of the year.
