Honoring Our Eldest Animal Companions
On September 15, a day dedicated to honoring aged individuals in society known as Respect for the Aged Day, Anicom Insurance Co., which holds the largest market share in pet insurance, unveiled its 2025 Longevity Album. This initiative celebrates the oldest pets under its coverage, providing a heartwarming record of longevity amidst our beloved animal companions.
Highlights of the 2025 Longevity Album
Since 2010, Anicom has recognized the oldest pets based on a wealth of data, allowing pet owners to showcase their fur babies in a commemorative spirit of appreciation and joy.
Among the distinguished entries, the oldest pet this year is a 28-year-old Japanese cat named Pochan, who has remarkably maintained her title for three consecutive years. Following her lead, we also have Ai-chan, a medium-sized dog, who has retained her top position for four years in a row, and Yō-chan, a bird who has impressively held the number one spot for six consecutive years, thus achieving a place in the Hall of Fame. These remarkable ages reflect not only the individual health of these animals but also the deep affection and diligent care provided by their owners.
Notable Longevity Record Holders
- - Pochan (Japanese Cat, 28 years old)
- - Yō (Bird, 26 years old)
- - Ai (Medium Dog, 23 years old)
These records represent the ages as of Respect for the Aged Day in 2025.
Insights Into Healthy Longevity
In line with the album's ethos, Anicom also sought insights from the pet owners of these honored animals, unveiling the wisdom behind their pets' longevity:
- - Pochan's Owner: "I let Pochan roam freely. She has become somewhat less mobile over the past year but continues to eat well and sleep a lot."
- - Genki's Owner: "Though genki has started to show signs of aging, her loud, familiar meows remain unchanged since the day we met. It seems to be her source of vitality."
- - Yō's Owner: "Being able to see family members while in the kitchen gives Yō a sense of security, and there seems to be very little stress in her life."
- - Mimi's Owner: "I laid carpets because Mimi dislikes flooring. Creating a free space for her to move has worked wonders for her well-being!"
- - Gūsuke's Owner: "He eats well, runs on his wheel often, and sleeps soundly. I also ensure we bond closely every day."
- - Shirasu's Owner: "I rely on online information and pet literature, but I believe every chinchilla has its own unique personality. I strive to connect with Shirasu without being overly anxious."
- - Hyerona's Owner: "Regular cleaning of the bedding is vital. Hygiene is paramount for a good life; I also make sure to give occasional warm baths and let her explore the living room freely to minimize any stress."
The
2025 Longevity Album also features heartfelt messages from owners expressing their love towards their pets, showcasing the bonds formed over years. It’s a truly beautiful testimony of love and care.
