Strengthening Medical Research ties: Okayama and Thammasat University Collaboration
On October 26, 2025, a significant milestone in international medical research collaboration took place as a delegation from Okayama University visited Thammasat University’s Faculty of Medicine in Thailand. Led by Associate Professor Daisuke Uchida of Okayama University’s New Medical Research Development Center, the discussions focused on the potential for international collaboration in the development of medical devices.
Thammasat University, one of Thailand’s premier national universities established in 1934, has been recognized for its proactive involvement in global research and educational initiatives. During the visit, the delegation had the opportunity to learn about the university's various research and innovation efforts through presentations from faculty members, including Professor Thipaporn Tharavanij, who serves as the Vice Dean for Research and Innovation.
In addition to highlighting the BIZEN program, Okayama University showcased its activities related to the development of medical devices. Furthermore, several participating companies presented cutting-edge medical technologies, including AI-assisted diagnostic aid systems. This led to lively discussions about the potential for technological collaboration between the institutions.
The exchange of souvenirs and the capturing of group photographs served not only as a memorable conclusion to the meeting but also as a symbol of deepening friendship and trust between the two universities.
This visit was made possible under the banner of the “Strengthening Industrial Promotion Centers for the Creation of Excellent Medical Devices” initiative, supported by the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED), alongside cooperation from Orb Health Care Holdings Co., Ltd. and Orb Health Care (Thailand) Co., Ltd.
Looking ahead, both institutions anticipate developing concrete themes for joint research and technical cooperation, expanding academic exchange programs, and enhancing collaboration in the fields of medical device development and digital health.
