In a significant move to improve hotel guest experiences, LG Electronics USA has declared a firmware upgrade that will integrate Google Cast functionality into countless existing hotel TVs. This advancement allows guests to effortlessly stream their favorite content from their personal devices directly to the hotel TV, ensuring a more personalized stay. The upgrade is part of LG's commitment to leading the market in hospitality technology.
The firmware update will benefit hundreds of thousands of LG ProCentric Smart hospitality TVs and smart boxes already installed in hotels across the nation. Notably, LG was the pioneer in offering built-in casting support, being the first to deliver smart hotel TVs that seamlessly integrate Google Cast alongside Apple AirPlay functionality. This upgrade will be showcased during The Hospitality Show 2025, taking place from October 26-28 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.
Key Features of the Upgrade
LG’s new firmware upgrade will allow hotel systems integrators to roll out Google Cast capabilities without the need for additional hardware or replacing existing TVs. The update targets various LG webOS 5 ProCentric hotel TV models, such as the US670H, US770H, and UR770H series, as well as the STB-6500 smart box. Moreover, for models from 2020 to 2023 already in use, this transition to enhanced functionality is designed to be swift and uncomplicated.
Jake Benner, Senior Director of Hospitality at LG Electronics USA, stated that this move highlights the brand's dedication to maximizing its customers' investments in LG's display technology. The introduction of Google Cast to legacy hotel TVs is seen as a distinctive advantage that is likely unparalleled in the market.
Simplifying Guest Connectivity
With the introduction of Google Cast, guests can now stream movies, music, videos, and photos directly from their smartphones or tablets to the hotel TV without any hassle. Users simply need to scan a QR code and select their room number within the app to connect, effectively using their personal devices as remotes.
The overarching goal, as outlined by Benner, is to make guest experiences in hotels
