Tamron Ventures into the Laser Welding Solutions Domain
Tamron Co., Ltd., a comprehensive optical equipment manufacturer based in Saitama, Japan, is set to enter the laser welding solutions field. This initiative aims to contribute positively to the automation of welding sites, improve the working environment, and enhance the quality of welding processes. The company is currently advancing the development of a crucial component in laser welding systems, the
Beam Profiler—a device that visualizes the state of the laser beam.
Starting from
September 16, 2026, Tamron will exhibit a prototype of the Beam Profiler at the
2026 International Welding Show at the Tokyo Big Sight, specifically at the booth of N-DEX Corporation (Booth No. 2-45, West Exhibition Hall).
The Need for Enhanced Welding Solutions
In recent years, there has been a significant demand for welding of lightweight and dissimilar metals, such as copper and aluminum, particularly due to the increasing miniaturization and performance enhancement of medical devices and precision machinery. Furthermore, there is a pressing need to improve the quality of welding processes to minimize spatter, ensuring that no debris adheres during welding operations.
However, laser welding processes face substantial challenges. Even with identical output conditions, variations in the focal position and spatial intensity distribution of the laser beam at the point of application can lead to inconsistent quality, spot misalignment, and the creation of spatter. Thus, there is a growing expectation for laser welding systems that integrate various technologies—including laser oscillators, processing heads, and beam profilers—with high precision to achieve uniform results.
Tamron's Innovative Approach
To tackle these challenges, Tamron is leveraging its extensive optical technology expertise to develop the Beam Profiler. This device will measure and visualize the state of the laser beam in real time, focusing on parameters such as laser beam diameter and thermal distribution.
Moreover, Tamron is also advancing the development of a
Laser Processing Head, based on their core optical technology designed for high-output lasers. Both the Beam Profiler and the Laser Processing Head are projected to launch by
2027, signaling Tamron’s formal entry into the laser welding solutions arena and its commitment to enhancing automation and working conditions in welding environments.
A Broader Vision for the Future
Tamron’s multi-faceted approach aligns with its new long-term vision: “To capture, measure, and connect. Transforming into a company that creates health for people and nature.” This vision emphasizes not only the supply of traditional optical components but also the comprehensive provision of optical systems and services.
Within the laser welding processing domain, Tamron aims to foster innovation by actively collaborating with partner companies and leveraging open innovation. The goal is to continuously create groundbreaking solutions that increase productivity in welding environments.
