NCIER® Enhances Public Safety with Free Active Shooter Training for First Responders

NCIER's Initiative for First Responders

In an urgent response to the growing need for preparedness in active shooter situations, the National Center for Integrated Emergency Response (NCIER®) has introduced a vital training program called Active Shooter Incident Management (ASIM) QuickStart™. This initiative offers free online video training and certification aimed at equipping first responders with essential skills and knowledge to take effective action right from the moment they arrive at an emergency scene.

Training Overview

The ASIM QuickStart course is designed specifically for law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency medical services (EMS) across the United States. It focuses on crucial aspects of incident management during active shooter events, incorporating proven strategies that can save lives. The program is built around the ASIM Checklist, a nationally recognized framework developed by C3 Pathways, Inc., and endorsed by the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA). This ensures that the training adheres to standards set by the National Incident Management System (NIMS), establishing a unified approach to managing such critical incidents.

In less than an hour, participants can complete the training module, which covers:
  • - Staging protocols
  • - Tactical and contact team operations
  • - Casualty collection and management
  • - Triage processes
  • - Emergency rescue and transport procedures

Given the time-sensitive nature of active shooter events, every second counts. The NCIER is stepping up to provide vital resources to ensure first responders can act quickly and effectively when lives are at stake.

Commitment to Preparedness

Bill Godfrey, the CEO of C3 Pathways and NCIER, emphasizes the organization’s dedication to making high-quality training accessible to all agencies, irrespective of their size or location. He states, “ASIM QuickStart is built by first responders for first responders, empowering our teams with best practices that they can implement immediately in the field. When every second counts, preparedness matters most.”

The NCIER aims to enhance public safety by offering this critical training free of charge, urging every agency to take advantage of this opportunity to bolster their preparedness and capabilities.
