Discover the Farm to Herb Market in Kichijoji
On June 7 and 8, the exciting
Farm to Herb Market will take place at
Koppis Kichijoji, located in
Musashino, Tokyo. Organized by
RE Co., Ltd., the event aims to highlight the local produce and culinary creativity of young chefs from the
Food HEROes U-30 COMMUNITY. In addition to showcasing Tokyo-grown ingredients through diverse food menus, the event will offer engaging workshops and activities, making it a perfect outing for families and food enthusiasts alike.
The Essence of Local Agriculture
As part of the festivities, visitors can sample a variety of delicious dishes created by chefs from the
Food HEROes U-30 COMMUNITY, all utilizing fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. This initiative addresses the chronic labor shortages faced by the restaurant industry by tapping into the passion and creativity of younger generations.
Ikuto Ryunosuke, a member of the community, has prepared a special hot dog featuring
Tokyo Wasabi sausage and kale from
Nakanishi Farm, drizzled with their signature wasabi mayonnaise. The unique combination promises a delightful taste experience!
Innovative Flavors on Offer
The event will also see the return of the highly popular
Herb-Flavored Chocolate Banana. The treat, previously a hit at earlier events, will now include refreshing mint and the exotic flavor of lemon myrtle, offering attendees an upgraded dessert option. The creamy chocolate will envelop fresh bananas, providing a rich and decadent delight.
Moreover, various other dishes will be on sale, including:
- - Hot Chicken Sandwich with kale and wasabi mayo from Nakanishi Farm
- - Tokyo-style Dashi Curry, featuring a blend of bonito and kelp dashi alongside fresh seafood sourced from Toyosu market
- - Seasonal Herb Baked Goods curated by renowned pastry chef Noriko Akiyama.
Workshops to Engage the Community
The
Farm to Herb Market isn’t just about food. It offers exciting workshops for all ages. Participants will have the chance to engage in:
- - Micro Herb Harvesting Experience: A hands-on workshop by Edomae Herb, where attendees can harvest microgreens like mizuna and spring herbs right from the planter.
- - Organic Herb Tea Blending Workshop: Guided by tea expert Shiho Toba, participants will create their unique infusion using organic herbs.
- - Plum Processing Workshop: Join beloved culinary author Mami Imai for a chance to learn how to make her incredible spiced sugar pickled plums using organic plums from Tokyo. Participants will take home their creations!
A Focus on Sustainability
The event is a response to many challenges facing Tokyo, including low food self-sufficiency and rising living costs. By promoting locally sourced ingredients and reducing food mileage, the Food HEROes U-30 COMMUNITY
seeks to enhance local awareness and food culture.
