Ontario International Airport Introduces Digital IDs for Enhanced Traveler Experience

Ontario International Airport Welcomes Digital IDs

Ontario International Airport (ONT) is excited to announce a significant advancement in its security process: the acceptance of Digital IDs by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). This move is set to transform the traveler experience by enabling a quicker, more convenient, and secure identification verification process at TSA checkpoints.

The Benefits of Digital IDs

With the TSA's new program, eligible passengers can now present their identification directly from mobile devices, such as smartphones or smartwatches. Gone are the days of fumbling through wallets, as travelers can effortlessly access their Digital IDs stored securely in digital wallets like Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, or designated state apps. This new method is not only efficient but is expected to reduce wait times at security checkpoints, providing a much smoother flow of travelers through the airport.

Digital IDs are gaining traction across more than 250 airports nationwide, and Ontario International is proud to be part of this technological evolution. UAE travelers can enjoy added convenience with the ONT+ Visitor Pass Program, allowing non-ticketed family and friends to accompany passengers to the post-security areas of the airport. ONT was the first in the nation to implement such a program, underscoring its commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction.

A Commitment to Modern Capabilities

CEO Atif Elkadi stated, "Ontario International Airport is proud to support TSA's digital identity initiative. This modern capability aligns with ONT's commitment to innovation, safety, and passenger convenience. Our travelers now have more choice and flexibility when navigating security, and when paired with ONT+, we continue to elevate the journey from start to finish."

With the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) rolling out its mobile driver’s license (mDL) initiative, California residents can easily obtain a digital ID. The program allows individuals to securely store their IDs on mobile devices, which can then be presented at TSA checkpoints.

Easy Steps to Get Your Digital ID

Obtaining a Digital ID in California is a straightforward process:
1. Visit the California DMV's DMV Wallet portal to enroll and verify your identity.
2. Follow the prompts to add your driver's license or state ID to your mobile wallet using either Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
3. When ready, present your Digital ID by holding your mobile device near the TSA identity reader at the security checkpoint.

Privacy and Security Considerations

Digital IDs offer a modern solution that emphasizes privacy and security. Users maintain control over the information they share during TSA checks, ensuring a more secure identification process.

It's important to note that TSA regulations still require passengers to present a federally compliant REAL ID or another accepted form of ID to board domestic flights. Starting February 1, 2026, travelers without appropriate identification at TSA checkpoints will have the option to use the optional TSA Confirm.ID verification service for a $45 fee.

Ontario International Airport's Vision

This initiative comes as Ontario International Airport celebrates a decade of local control, themed around "Reclaimed. Revived. Ready." This year-long celebration will feature various events and special promotions leading to its anniversary on November 1, 2026. ONT, recognized as the second most popular mid-sized airport in the U.S. according to J.D. Power's latest study, continues to prioritize innovation in enhancing the travel experience for all visitors.

Whether you're a frequent flyer or new to the airport, the introduction of Digital IDs at Ontario International marks a significant step towards a more efficient and enjoyable travel process. Stay informed and join the digital transformation at ONT, where convenience meets cutting-edge technology.
