National PTA Celebrates Creative Young Artists



The National PTA is excited to announce the winners of its 2025-2026 Reflections® program, celebrating the creativity of students nationwide. This year, the theme was "I Belong!" which inspired students to express themselves through various forms of art including dance, film, literature, music, photography, and visual arts.

Seven students earned the prestigious Outstanding Interpretation Award, showcasing their remarkable talents and unique perspectives. The recipients hail from diverse locations, representing 34 states and amplifying the voices of young artists from different cultural backgrounds. Here are the winners:

  • - Maurice Ironheart (South Dakota) - Dance Choreography: "Siyo Waci"
  • - Mika Chang (Washington) - Film Production: "The Village of Balloons"
  • - Fernando Nunez (California) - Film Production, Accessible Arts Division: "My Life in Puzzle Pieces"
  • - Shailesh Vimal (Iowa) - Literature: "Between Two Worlds I Belong"
  • - Zachary Foss (Kansas) - Music Composition: "Home"
  • - Peter Malabuyo (Idaho) - Photography: "I Mala-Belong"
  • - Celena Zhang (Washington) - Visual Arts: "Outside the Glass"

Each winner will receive an $800 scholarship to further develop their artistic skills, while their local PTAs will be awarded $200 to promote arts and culture within their communities. Additionally, 240 students were acknowledged with Awards of Excellence and Merit for their exceptional contributions.

Yvonne Johnson, president of the National PTA, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "We are thrilled to recognize the 2025-2026 national Reflections winners and shine a light on the incredible talents and creativity of our nation's students in the arts." The program emphasizes the importance of arts in educational settings, playing a vital role in supporting students' emotional well-being and academic progress.

Howie Berman, executive director of the National PTA, added that the Reflections program has over 50 years of history in recognizing student creativity. The National PTA Reflections program encourages students from pre-K through 12th grade to submit original works reflecting the year's theme.
