Introduction to the Program
The Veteran New Graduate Market, based in Chuo, Tokyo, has launched a vital support program starting June 25, 2025. This initiative specifically caters to experienced white-collar professionals from large corporations, aiding them in their pursuit of a fulfilling next career. The program focuses on two main pillars: learning and employment support, guiding participants to a reinvigorated sense of purpose in their careers. Through this innovative approach, we aim to empower veterans to embark on their unique journeys of self-discovery and career transition after decades in traditional employment.
The Concept of 'Day1 Mindset'
What does it mean to be a 'Veteran New Graduate'? This term represents seasoned professionals who approach their careers with the fresh perspective of a recent graduate, a mindset we call 'Day1 Mindset.' This philosophy emphasizes the importance of starting anew, equipped with life experiences and a willingness to adapt toward a future that resonates with personal values and aspirations. Our central training program, the 'Veteran New Graduate Day1 Academy,' co-developed with Life Shift Co., sets the stage for this transformative process.
Why Now?
The demographic shift towards an aging workforce is evident, with more than 18 million workers aged 50 and above in Japan (Ministry of Internal Affairs, 2023). As employees from large companies face retirement, there is a notable decrease in corporate loyalty and an increasing responsibility to manage one’s own career journey. Historically, many professionals have not had the chance to reflect deeply on their individual career motivations and visions. This gap has affected their job satisfaction and overall motivation. In response, our program facilitates essential discussions that prompt individuals to examine their life perspectives and rekindle their ambitions.
Participating in the Academy
As of June 25, about 15 individuals from 10 different industries, including finance, trading, retail, and manufacturing, have embarked on this journey as the first cohort of the Academy. Together, they will explore their desired life paths and uncover the possibilities that lie ahead. Our collaboration with Life Shift, renowned for its expertise in lifelong education, will enhance the participants' learning experiences, allowing for a robust curriculum that spans practical insights and philosophical perspectives.
Program Design
The curriculum is structured around two main axes:
'Day1 Academy (Learning)' and
'Job Support (Career Development)'. This dual approach aims to create social value by fostering positive employment matching for experienced professionals:
- - Day1 Academy (Learning): Focused on personal introspection, participants will engage in self-leadership practices, cultivate new perspectives through liberal arts, and highlight peer learning. With over 70 e-learning modules available, continuous growth is facilitated through online resources.
- - Job Support (Career Development): Rather than concentrating solely on 'what to do next,' our program emphasizes 'how to be' in career planning. We provide comprehensive support, from job matching to onboarding, ensuring participants discover their fulfilling new careers.
Key Components of the Program
1.
Personal Reflection Techniques: Participants articulate their values and redefine their decision-making processes, drawing on lessons learned throughout their careers.
2.
Peer Learning and Network Building: Interaction and dialogue within groups help participants refine their outlook and foster a network of supportive colleagues.
3.
Customized Job Matching Support: Leveraging specialized career consultants for one-on-one assistance and providing a platform for networking opportunities.
