Shinna Kanno Achieves Triple Victory at Japan Para Athletics Championships

On June 7th and 8th, Shinna Kanno, an athlete representing Altius Link and the Miyagi TFC club team in Sendai, showcased her remarkable talent at the WPA-sanctioned 2025 Japan Para Athletics Championships. Competing in individual and group events, she emerged victorious in three categories, setting new championship records in each.

Event Highlights

Individual Events:
  • - T20 Women's 400m (June 7) - Shinna secured first place with a record time of 59.41 seconds, establishing a new championship record.
  • - T20 Women's 200m (June 8) - She followed this with another victory, clocking in at 26.71 seconds, which also became a new championship record.

Team Event:
  • - T20 Women's 4x100m Relay (June 8) - Alongside her teammates, Wakana Honda, Haruka Toku, and Maki Kato from Miyagi TFC, Shinna's relay team won gold with a time of 52.73 seconds, marking yet another championship record.

In an exclusive interview, Shinna shared her reflections on the competition, particularly the anxiety she faced leading up to it due to a back injury. "I was nervous about the pain during my training, but on competition day, I managed to run as I intended. It was tough running into a headwind as I approached the finish, but I did my best and felt relieved to cross the line successfully," she commented.

Shinna found motivation running alongside competitors from T20 categories, allowing her to push herself and enjoy the thrill of racing against them to the finish.

Power Foods and Relaxation Techniques

When asked about her go-to performance meals, Shinna mentioned her favorite is Miyagi rice, often paired with simmered mackerel. She also makes it a point to taste local delicacies at competitions outside of Miyagi prefecture. To combat pre-competition nerves, Shinna listens to music and finds solace in following her favorite actor, Junsei Ishiyama, on social media.

Future Aspirations

Looking to the future, Shinna aims to train under Coach Hamanaka to enhance her technique and surpass her personal bests. Her ultimate goal is to achieve a time of under 57 seconds in the 400m event.
