Huawei Champions Cross-Sector Collaboration at Europe Innovation Day 2024 in Paris
On November 24, 2024, Huawei held the Europe Innovation Day 2024 in Paris, where technology leaders, business representatives, and innovation experts from across Europe convened to explore opportunities for cross-border and inter-industry collaboration. The central theme of this year's event, "Unlocking the Potential of European Innovation," focused on addressing the critical challenges facing the continent in terms of digital transformation and strategies to enhance regional ecosystems while boosting global competitiveness.
Promoting Digital Progress through Collaboration
The opening panel featured Jesus Contreras, Chief Operating Officer and Financial Officer of EIT Digital, who asserted that innovation is never a solo endeavor but thrives on collaboration and knowledge exchange among various stakeholders. He highlighted the vitality of pooling diverse perspectives from global partners to invigorate collective efforts in digital innovation.
Nicola Caputová, Regional Minister of Campania (Italy) and member of the European Committee of the Regions, underscored the challenges hindering Europe’s digital transformation, such as insufficient digital literacy, slow adoption rates, and uneven 5G coverage. She called on governments to foster cross-border collaboration to bolster Europe’s global competitiveness in the digital economy.
Ximo Puig, Spain's permanent representative to the OECD, noted that innovation provides a framework within which governments, businesses, and society must work together to drive long-term development and build a fully connected world.
Laurent Lafforgue, a renowned mathematician from Huawei Technologies France, emphasized that rapid advances in technological innovation rely on solid theoretical foundations, stressing that extensive theoretical research is essential for sustainable, long-term technological progress.
Huawei's Commitment to Long-Term Investment
Yu Liang, Vice President of Huawei Cloud Global Ecosystem, reflected on innovation being a long-term process and reaffirmed Huawei's dedication to fostering open collaborations that generate societal and commercial value. He also announced a partnership with Station F to launch an incubation program focused on sustainability, aiming to support ten startups in sectors like retail, automotive, and industrial manufacturing, allowing them to achieve swift growth during a seven-month incubation period.

He remarked that Europe’s digital transformation is progressing slower than outlined goals in the "Digital Decade for Europe by 2030" plan, particularly in areas like data and artificial intelligence.
Supporting Inclusivity and Women Innovators
