Puratos USA has recently opened a state-of-the-art bakery glaze facility in Pennsauken, New Jersey, marking a significant milestone as the first of its kind in the United States. The grand opening event took place on October 27, 2025, and was a celebration filled with industry leaders and community members, including U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross. Attendees were treated to a ceremonial cutting of a giant glazed challah bread, symbolizing the sweet possibilities that lie ahead. The event highlighted live demonstrations of advanced bakery automation and interactive sessions aimed at illustrating Puratos' collaborative approach to innovation.

Andrew Brimacombe, President of Puratos US, emphasized the significance of local production. One of the highlights of the new facility is its flagship product, Sunset Glaze, a plant-based, allergen-free alternative to traditional egg wash. This innovative glaze not only provides a superior golden finish but is also shelf-stable thanks to advanced Ultra-High Temperature (UHT) technology. This offers industrial bakers a safer, more convenient solution, significantly reducing waste associated with traditional egg-based products.

Moreover, Sunset Glaze also supports bakeries in their transition towards cage-free operations, aligning with modern consumer expectations for ethical production methods while also addressing corporate sustainability goals. Enhanced food safety measures and a notable reduction in CO₂ emissions further solidify this product’s standing.

In a survey conducted in 2024, 78% of consumers affirmed that glazed bakery goods appear fresher and more appealing, with approximately 55% expressing a willingness to pay a premium for glazed products. This positive consumer sentiment bodes well for the market performance of glazed items, which have been shown to outperform non-glazed goods by up to 7 percentage points in various retail categories.
