Laura Villars: Aiming for FIA Presidency, Engages Member Clubs Globally
Just a few days following her official announcement of candidacy for the Presidency of the FIA, Laura Villars, a 28-year-old racing driver and entrepreneur from Switzerland, has embarked on an essential phase of her campaign. This involves reaching out to all member clubs within the FIA across the globe. Every club president has received a personalized email from Villars accompanied by her statement of commitment.
In tandem with this email outreach, Villars has also initiated direct phone conversations with numerous club leaders. The aim of these discussions is to listen to their concerns and to foster constructive dialogues.
In her message, Laura Villars emphasized her dedication to the FIA, declaring, "The FIA is our common home. I have been a member of it my entire life, both as a racing driver and a member of mobility clubs. Today, I want to leverage this experience for a collective project built with and for the clubs." Her statement of commitment outlines five firm pledges:
1. Independent and Transparent Governance: This includes an elected Audit Committee, an autonomous Senate budget, a public registry of interests, and an open grants panel to ensure accountability.
2. Equitable Support for All Clubs: Establishing a Support Fund for Clubs, simplified access to development funds, and progressive membership fees that lower costs for smaller ASN.
3. Accessible and Inclusive Motorsport: Introduction of the Women in Motorsport Fund (20 annual scholarships), the FIA Young Leaders Academy (supporting 25 talents each year worldwide), and co-financing mechanisms aimed at reducing grassroots entry costs by 20% over three years.
4. Concrete Impact on Mobility and Tourism: Establishing the "Zero Deaths by 2035" initiative, implementing 100 Smart Mobility projects in three years, executing the FIA-UNWTO Action Plan, and developing a universal FIA digital card.
5. A Lasting Legacy: Striving for a carbon-neutral FIA by 2030 and the FIA Academy for Future Leaders as a complement to the FIA University.
Villars has reminded clubs that validation of her candidacy requires support from 18 official clubs, which must include 6 sports clubs, 6 mobility clubs, and 6 mixed clubs among the 245 member clubs of the FIA. "The decision now lies in the hands of the clubs. They have the power to ensure a genuine democratic competition and propel the FIA into the future," she asserts.
A comprehensive view of Laura Villars' agenda will be shared in the upcoming weeks, ahead of the elections scheduled for December 2025. The full statement of commitment is attached to this press release for those interested in further details regarding her vision and proposals.
