Experience Authentic Japanese Culture at Okuzouyu
As the year comes to a close, why not immerse yourself in authentic Japanese culture at Machida's only sento, Okuzouyu? This cherished public bath has been a staple of the community since its establishment in 1966. It offers not only a relaxing place to soak but also hosts unique events during the New Year period.
Special Events for Year-End and New Year
Okuzouyu plans to make this festive season memorable with two special occasions. The first event is held on
December 22, coinciding with the winter solstice when visitors can enjoy a traditional
Yuzu-yu bath. It’s said that soaking in yuzu-infused hot water will help prevent colds during the winter months—a practice beloved since the Edo period.
The Yuzu-yu event will run from
3 PM to 11 PM, allowing plenty of time for guests to enjoy the soothing effects of the fragrant yuzu. This seasonal offering not only provides warmth but also adds an aromatic touch to the bathing experience.
The second event is on
January 4, the first business day of the New Year. All visitors during this time will receive a special towel featuring
Yuppo-kun, the official character of Okuzouyu. This charming mascot represents the sento and adds a playful atmosphere to your bathing experience. This towel giveaway is also available from
3 PM to 11 PM.
