New Art and Culture Project: Ultraman Kaiju
Tsuburaya Productions and CCC, in collaboration with Metafield Inc., are thrilled to announce an innovative project that highlights the diverse world of Ultraman kaiju. Set to launch on April 10, 2026, the exhibition titled
"Paradise of Kaiju" will take place at the Ginza Tsutaya bookstore, offering visitors a unique artistic experience rooted in Japan's beloved intellectual property (IP).
A Vision for Japan's Cultural Assets
This project aims to adapt Tsuburaya Productions' esteemed IP, the Ultraman kaiju, to a refined lifestyle domain, expanding brand touchpoints and customer demographics. Collaborating closely with CCC Art Lab, which endeavors to bolster intellectual capital through co-creation with IP companies, the focus will be on merging contemporary artistic expression with the intrinsic values of the kaiju characters.
The Ultraman kaiju are not just creatures; they possess distinct ecosystems, philosophies, and backstories, crafted from the imagination of their creators. Tsuburaya Productions aspires to convey the significance of “imaginary power” and the essential nature of mutual understanding amidst diversity through these unique beings.
CCC, a company that has championed new lifestyles for individuals with varying value systems, wholeheartedly supports these ideals. The collaboration seeks to enhance the creative potential of the Ultraman kaiju through art, aiming to generate new fans and cultural movements. Both companies aim to leverage their strengths to resonate with inquisitive individuals who appreciate diversity and self-expression.
Collaborating with Contemporary Artists
A significant aspect of the project includes the involvement of Chihiro Nakahara, a Kyoto-born artist currently making waves internationally. Under her guidance, the
"Paradise of Kaiju" exhibition will present a distinctive vision where the Ultraman kaiju coexist in an imaginative universe.
The exhibition will be based around an intriguing narrative:
somewhere unknown to humanity exists a world inhabited by aliens and kaiju, free from persecution and existing in joy and freedom. Nakahara’s unparalleled imagination will weave together a series of enchanting and story-rich artworks that reflect this fantastic world.
Through this exhibition, we hope to bridge the gap between the audience and the rich world of art and culture, showcasing the value of these shared experiences in Tsutaya bookstores nationwide.
