Baltimore Ravens and MedStar Health Create Memorable Tailgate for Cancer Patients
A Special Tailgate Experience for Cancer Patients
The air filled with the exhilarating sounds of the Ravens Marching Band as the Baltimore Ravens and MedStar Health celebrated their second annual Ravens Crucial Catch Tailgate Experience. This heartwarming event took place not just in the stadium lots but right at the hospital, welcoming cancer patients, their families, and caregivers to partake in a joyous afternoon filled with festivities.
Participants in this unique gathering were offered a slice of football culture, despite ongoing treatments that might otherwise hinder them from attending games in person. The event has grown into one of the most significant hospital-related festivities of the year, bringing a sense of community and relief to its attendees.
Nicole McFadden, a courageous breast cancer survivor, highlighted the importance of such gatherings. "It's important for cancer patients to keep their stress levels down and have fun and laugh. Having a good time makes you feel better," she said. Diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 34, McFadden expressed that advocating for one’s health is crucial and emphasized the necessity of programs like Crucial Catch for community support and collective awareness.
At the event, attendees seized the opportunity to meet Ravens alumni, including Qadry Ismail and Jameel McClain, who took the time to interact with fans and pose for pictures. Even the team's mascot, Poe, along with the cheer squad, joined the festivities, enriching the atmosphere of cheer and hope.
Dr. Masha Mohebtash, the medical director of MedStar Health Community Oncology, underlined the campaign's purpose by stating, "As an oncologist, I always say that prevention is better than a cure. Early detection is critical. Raising awareness is crucial. Events like this are important for patients who are navigating so much mentally, emotionally, and physically." Such gatherings provide patients with a much-needed reprieve from their treatment regimes, allowing them to enjoy themselves in a welcoming environment.
No tailgate experience would be complete without the quintessential game-day food. Guests savored a delightful array of traditional fare prepared by the culinary team at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center. Additionally, participants engaged in tailgate games, crafted
