Oita Prefecture Launches Official Health App 'Arutokku' to Promote Health Among Residents

Oita Prefecture's New Health App: 'Arutokku'

In a significant move towards enhancing public health, Felica Pocket Marketing, headquartered in Bunkyo, Tokyo, has officially launched the health app 'Arutokku' on April 1, 2025. This app is part of Oita Prefecture's ongoing initiative called the "Minna de Susumeru Kenko-zukuri" (Everyone's Health Promotion Project). Following a trial phase from March 3 to March 31, 2025, the app is now fully operational.

Oita Prefecture has aimed for the nation's highest health span and has supported residents in establishing exercise habits through the previous app, 'Oita Arutoku,' launched in 2018. With over 100,000 registrations, the app has played an important role in improving the health of many residents. The new version, 'Arutokku,' was developed based on user feedback to enhance usability and functionality.

Key Features of the 'Arutokku' App

The new 'Arutokku' app is designed to incentivize daily health improvement activities by allowing users to earn points through various activities. Some of these activities include daily walking, participating in health-related events, logging health records, and attending health check-ups. Points accumulated can be redeemed at partnered stores within Oita Prefecture, with availability set to expand shortly.

Additionally, the app offers a range of engaging features:

  • - Virtual Walking Experience: Users can embark on imaginary walking courses based on their step count, making fitness enjoyable.
  • - Group Competitions: Users can join ranking competitions with groups or companies, motivating them to participate in health improvement activities together.

Detailed Functionality

Record-Keeping Feature

Users can input their daily health metrics, allowing them to track previous records of weight, blood pressure, temperature, and health check records. This historical data can be reviewed at any time, promoting better health awareness.

Graphical Representation

The app provides graphical representations of various health metrics such as step count, walking distance, calories burned, weight, blood pressure, and temperature. This feature enables users to visually assess changes in their health status at a glance.

Ranking System

The ranking feature fosters community motivation by displaying rankings in various categories such as overall users, age groups, regions, groups, and companies. This lets users engage in friendly competition while working on their health goals together.

Data Migration from the Old App

For users of the previous app ('Oita Arutoku'), there is an opportunity to migrate data related to step count, blood pressure, and weight for the past year. This migration process is part of an initiative where respondents to an in-app survey will have their data transferred. The migration will be available until June 30, 2025.

Voices from Oita Prefectural Officials

Officials from Oita Prefecture have expressed their commitment to supporting residents in developing exercise habits through "Oita Arutokku." After incorporating user feedback into the app's redesign, they are excited about its official launch on April 1 and encourage Oita residents to download the app. Additionally, from April 1 to June 30, participants who download the app will be entered into a lottery for a chance to win 500 yen in electronic money, further incentivizing the use of the app.
