ChangAn's First International NEV Manufacturing Base: A New Era in Thailand's Automotive Industry

On May 19, 2025, ChangAn Automobile, a prominent player in intelligent low-carbon mobility technology, celebrated the launch of its first international new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturing base in Rayong, Thailand. This event not only signifies a major leap in ChangAn's global expansion strategy but also represents a transformation in its operational model—from merely exporting products to exporting entire industrial ecosystems.

The innovative Rayong facility highlights ChangAn's commitment to its 'Vast Ocean Plan,' aimed at elevating five major overseas markets to the same strategic importance as its native market in China. This base is designed to integrate manufacturing, research and development (R&D) processes, and supply chain standards, underpinning a green and intelligent production model that is both sustainable and replicable across borders.

A State-of-the-Art Manufacturing Facility

Spanning approximately 245 rai (392,000 square meters), the Rayong factory includes five separate workshops dedicated to welding, painting, assembly, and more, enhancing efficiency and product quality. The facility is built with a focus on energy conservation and features advanced operational frameworks—coupled with renewable energy solutions like photovoltaic systems, daylight optimization, and comprehensive water recycling measures. This design aims to reduce energy consumption by around 20% per vehicle produced.

ChangAn's commitment to technological advancement is evident in the automated processes and adaptive systems that streamline production, ensuring the facility can respond to diverse market demands. By 2027, the factory's production capacity is expected to double from the initial target of 100,000 units annually, supporting the CHANG-AN, DEEPAL, and AVATR brands.

Milestone Achievements

In conjunction with the factory opening, ChangAn also reached a significant milestone by rolling out its 28.59 millionth vehicle—a right-hand drive DEEPAL S05 designed specifically for global markets. This achievement reflects the company’s efforts and persistence in investing in international markets, particularly following a successful branding initiative launched in Thailand back in November 2023. The company has successfully introduced seven new models to the Thai market, including the DEEPAL S07, E07, and AVATR 11, amassing sales that position them among the top four NEV brands in Thailand.

Strategic Global Operations

The establishment of the Rayong factory exemplifies ChangAn's extensive automotive manufacturing expertise, built over 41 years. It aims to be a prototype for ChangAn's global manufacturing standards, fostering local talent while adhering to international best practices. The factory's operational framework incorporates a lean management strategy centered around ChangAn's CPS, emphasizing core processes that contribute to efficiency and excellence.

As ChangAn embraces the challenges posed by anti-globalization trends, the company's leadership remains steadfast in its mission. Zhu Huarong, Chairman of ChangAn Automobile, stated, "This is a big moment for ChangAn—a giant leap from exporting cars to building a local ecosystem. In the face of modern challenges, we commit to the Vast Ocean Plan with an outlook of win-win cooperation to advance both the economic landscape of Thailand and the global automotive industry."

Conclusion

The opening of ChangAn's manufacturing base in Thailand marks a significant milestone in the automobile industry, poised to reshape the landscape of NEV production not just locally, but globally. As technology evolves and consumption habits shift, ChangAn is strategically positioned to lead the charge into a more sustainable and innovative automotive future. With its new Rayong facility, the company is not only enhancing its product offerings but also setting a standard for operational excellence and ecological responsibility in manufacturing.
