FPCO and Co-op Kagoshima: A Step Towards Sustainability
On May 1, 2026, FPCO Co., Ltd., led by President Masamasa Sato, announced a collaborative initiative with the Co-op Kagoshima, under the leadership of Chairman Hidetoshi Kamijo. This initiative, titled the "Eco Store Collaboration Declaration," aims to promote a sustainable circular economy.
The collaboration focuses on enhancing the "Store to Store" horizontal recycling efforts at all 19 Co-op Kagoshima locations. This initiative marks a significant first step in collaboration between FPCO and cooperatives nationwide.
FPCO and Co-op Kagoshima have previously worked together with the vision of making their stores environmental leaders in their communities. Through collection boxes set up in the stores, they have gathered used food trays and PET bottles from co-op members and local residents. All collected materials are processed at FPCO's recycling facility, transforming them into eco-friendly products such as "Eco Trays" and "Eco APET." These recycled products are then reused in Co-op Kagoshima stores, adhering to the concept of the circular economy without changing the initial application—thus continuing the "Store to Store" recycling scheme.
This declaration marks the start of an initiative to elevate the existing recycling scheme, expanding it to involve the community further. This includes an increase in the range of eco-friendly products adopted in Co-op Kagoshima stores, as they strive to implement as many eco-products as possible. Additionally, to improve in-store collection rates, they will enhance visual PR through increased environmental posters and those displaying CO2 reduction effects.
Furthermore, each store will host environmental events to strongly encourage recycling participation among co-op members and local residents.
For the fiscal year ending March 2026, they successfully collected 21.70 tons of food trays and 20.44 tons of PET bottles. The usage of eco-products led to a CO2 emissions reduction of 137.59 tons. With the strengthening of these efforts, they aim for the following targets for the fiscal year ending March 2027: a food tray collection of 22.0 tons (a 101.4% increase from the previous year), PET bottle collection of 22.0 tons (a 107.6% increase), and a CO2 emissions reduction of 144.0 tons (a 104.7% increase).
Through this initiative, FPCO and Co-op Kagoshima aspire to promote the circular economy of Earth's resources and the reduction of CO2 emissions in collaboration with co-op members and local communities, ultimately contributing to reducing environmental impact and fostering a sustainable society.
