Harnessing AI and SNS Marketing: Free Seminar for Tokyo SMEs on E-commerce and Mail Order

Free Seminar for Tokyo SMEs on E-commerce and AI Marketing

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is hosting a free seminar titled "Understanding E-commerce and Mail Order" aimed at supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the region. With a focus on utilizing AI and social media for effective marketing strategies, the seminar is part of a broader initiative designed to assist businesses either looking to start their online shopping platforms or those wishing to revamp their existing mail order services.

Event Overview

The seminar will be held on October 7, 2026, at Akihabara's Akiba Plaza, where experts will provide foundational knowledge necessary for engaging in the e-commerce sector. This is the third installment in a series of four seminars planned throughout the year, each covering distinct themes relevant to the world of online business.

Topics Covered

Participants will gain insights into effective product planning, public relations methods, and examples of successful enterprises leveraging online commerce. The first part of the seminar will focus on using social media to build a loyal customer base while incorporating AI for operational efficiency.

Part 1: Building Trust Through SNS Engagement

From 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Manami Shikama, the representative of Shikama.net, will discuss strategies for creating engaging content that fosters trust and emotional connections with customers on social media platforms. With over 25 years of experience in web strategy and e-commerce, Shikama will provide actionable steps for participants to enhance their social media marketing efforts without a hefty advertising budget.

Part 2: Retaining Customers Beyond the First Sale

From 11:10 AM to 12:10 PM, Takashi Harada, a seasoned marketing consultant, will emphasize the importance of post-sale engagement. His session will cover effective techniques for utilizing LINE and email newsletters to encourage repeat purchases, stressing that how businesses communicate with clients post-transaction can greatly influence future sales.

Individual Counseling on E-commerce Challenges

Alongside the seminar, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a free individual consultation session, dubbed the “Mail Order Any Question Consultation.” Scheduled from 1:10 PM to 5:00 PM, these 40-minute consultations will provide valuable insights on tailored issues that SMEs may face in e-commerce, such as boosting revenue, increasing brand awareness without spending on ads, and navigating new responsibilities for designated e-commerce staff.

Experts will be on hand to answer questions and provide customized advice. Potential topics for discussion could include:
  • - What steps to take if you’re new in the role of e-commerce manager?
  • - How to enhance online visibility without incurring costs?
  • - Swift methods to locate potential partners for newly developed products?
  • - Effective ways to grow new customer bases in a competitive market?
  • - Feasible marketing measures for small teams?

Registration and Additional Information

Interested participants must register by September 28, 2026. The seminar is free to attend, with a limit of 40 attendees for the seminar and 8 companies for the counseling sessions. Applications can be completed via the official website or by submitting the relevant information through a provided application form.

The seminar and consultation are organized by the Japan Direct Marketing Association (JADMA), a nonprofit organization established to support the mail order and e-commerce industry in achieving sustainable growth. JADMA actively engages in various activities targeted not only at businesses but also at consumers, aiming to uplift the standards and practices in the industry.
