A Spotlight on Women Entrepreneurs
The
Association of Women's Business Centers (AWBC) has initiated an impressive national tour, visiting five cities to celebrate the contributions of women-owned businesses. This move underscores the importance of investment in Women's Business Centers (WBCs) as essential resources that empower female entrepreneurs across the country.
AWBC serves as a powerful advocate for women's entrepreneurship and aims to convince government officials and the public of the vital role these centers play. With media press conferences at each destination, the focus will be on the significant contributions women-owned businesses make to local economies, as well as the essential services provided by WBCs.
AWBC’s CEO,
Corinne Goble, emphasizes that visibility is key. "Without Women's Business Centers, many women entrepreneurs wouldn’t have a path forward. These visits are proof that the federal investment is working—and continued investment is needed," she noted. Her sentiments echo a broader call for sustainable political and financial support, which is crucial for the longevity of these centers and the businesses they foster.
The Economic Impact of WBCs
The tangible benefits of WBCs are striking. Recently included in a pivotal appropriations bill, the WBC program has shown remarkable results:
- - Supported 340,000 jobs
- - Contributed $16 billion in wages
- - For every federal dollar invested, WBCs generated $6 in new business revenue
- - $7.50 in private capital was acquired for every federal dollar, translating to $15 in total economic activity
These statistics reveal the measurable impact these centers have on economic growth and support for women entrepreneurs. As the tour progresses, stories of individual success will highlight the diversity and vibrancy of women-led businesses, ranging from tech startups to local retail establishments.
Tour Schedule and Goals
The AWBC Media Spotlight Tour will make stops in the following cities:
- - July 22: weVENTURE WBC, Melbourne, Florida
- - July 24: WEST Center, Ukiah, California
- - July 30: Business Impact NW, Valdez, Alaska
- - August 12: New Growth WBC, El Dorado Springs, Missouri

A Movement That Matters
From rural towns to bustling cities, women-led businesses are not just surviving; they are thriving, driving innovation, and contributing solutions to the challenges faced by their communities. The AWBC aims to underscore that these businesses are vital to our economy and that the business environment can be further enhanced through continued funding and resources.
As part of this movement, AWBC calls on local, state, and federal leaders to prioritize targeted policy solutions that empower women entrepreneurs. Bipartisan support is necessary to maintain and enhance the capacity of every WBC, ensuring that they can continue to serve and uplift their communities effectively.
