Net5.5G Intelligent IP Network Summit: Security and Resilience in AI Era
Net5.5G Intelligent IP Network Summit: A Gateway to Future Resilient Networks
On October 14, 2026, the Net5.5G Intelligent IP Network Summit took place during the Global Ultra-Broadband Forum (UBBF) 2026, bringing together industry leaders to discuss vital security and resilience measures essential for the advancement of IP networks in the era of artificial intelligence.
The summit was held under the motto, “Security and Resilience for Networks, Smart New Growth for Operators.” It showcased GSMA Intelligence’s latest whitepaper on cybersecurity, which was unveiled globally for the first time. This paper emphasizes the necessity for global operators to build secure and resilient networks to effectively mitigate emerging security threats posed by AI technologies.
ITU-T SG13 and WBBA initiated a joint call for networks to implement foundational security while leveraging AI for monetization of new business models. During the event, representatives from ITU-T SG13, alongside AV-TEST, analyzed how the AI wave is transforming the cybersecurity threat landscape. The discussions highlighted that AI has not only accelerated the frequency of attacks but also intensified their impact, shifting the traditional balance between offensive and defensive security. Therefore, integrating security and resilience into the very architecture of networks has become a strategic imperative.
GSMA Intelligence’s whitepaper, titled “A Target Architecture for Cybersecurity in Telecommunications,” illuminated two core pillars pivotal for modern telecom networks. Firstly, the concept of “Native Security” underscores the importance of embedding security measures from design and production through to deployment and operation. Secondly, “In-Depth Defense” advocates for a multi-layered, domain-specific approach to safeguard against sophisticated threats.
The paper also raises alarm about decryption threats arising from quantum computing, warning that malicious actors may store encrypted data to decrypt it later. Thus, telecommunications operators are urged to adopt new cryptographic algorithms and cybersecurity measures ensuring resilience against potential quantum-enabled attacks.
To address these pressing challenges, ITU-T SG13, in partnership with WBBA, launched the initiative “Build Resilient, Secure IP Networks Together.” This initiative encourages global telecom operators to enhance network security and resilience, thereby ensuring high reliability and uninterrupted service in the age of AI.
During the summit, Leon Wang, President of Huawei's Data Communication Product Line, pointed out the evolution of AI from an efficiency tool to a driving force for network monetization. He stressed the need for a secure and resilient foundation to facilitate sustainable growth. Following this, John Cai, Vice President of Huawei’s Data Communication Product Line, provided an in-depth overview of Huawei's advanced NG-WAN solutions designed to bolster network security and performance.
Furthermore, leaders from prominent global telecom providers shared their strategic roadmaps and innovative practices surrounding network security, resilience, and autonomous networking. Recognition was given to organizations excelling in these areas, with the Egyptian National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) receiving the “Pioneer of National Policy for Network Resilience” award. In comments made by Eng. Shamroukh, the Executive President and CEO of NTRA, he highlighted that this accolade reflects their commitment to building resilient and secure IP networks while promoting initiatives for children's online safety.
These accolades reinforce the industry consensus on the critical necessity of ensuring service continuity through security and resilience while driving business growth through network intelligence.
In conclusion, the success of the Net5.5G summit outlines a clear developmental trajectory for network security within the AI age. It signals a bold stride towards a new intelligent era for global telecommunications networks, characterized by high quality, security, and resilience.
