Procter & Gamble Launches Disaster Relief Efforts for West Virginia Flooding Victims
Procter & Gamble's Response to West Virginia Flooding
In Buckhannon, West Virginia, Procter & Gamble (P&G), in collaboration with Matthew 25 Ministries and Walmart, has launched a critical disaster relief initiative aimed at offering much-needed support to those affected by severe flash flooding. Beginning July 24, 2026, P&G will be providing essential services including mobile laundry units, hot showers, and personal care items to help families regain a sense of normalcy in the wake of recent catastrophic storms.
The Impact of Flash Flooding
This region has been hit hard by unprecedented storms, which dropped over seven inches of rain. The deluge caused extensive damage: flash floods led to mudslides, road blockages, and serious disruptions to daily life and infrastructure. In times of crisis, it becomes crucial to have not just material supplies, but also services that can restore dignity and comfort to those affected.
Launch of Relief Operations
On Friday, July 24, relief operations commenced at the Walmart Supercenter located at 100 Buckhannon Xrds, Buckhannon, WV 26201, starting at 9:00 AM ET. P&G aims to facilitate access to laundry services and showers for individuals impacted by the flooding and first responders, allowing them to refresh and recover. All services are offered free of charge, ensuring that no financial burden is placed upon those who are already suffering.
Service Details
Laundry Services: The Tide Loads of Hope mobile unit provides complimentary laundry services. Affected residents can drop off up to two loads of laundry to be washed, dried, and returned to them neatly folded, thus relieving one of the many stressors that come from such disasters.
Shower Facilities: Numerous mobile shower trailers have been deployed, featuring clean, private bathroom and shower units. They also include ADA-compliant options to ensure accessibility for all residents. Additionally, Pampers stations for changing infants will also be available.
* Personal Care Products: P&G is also distributing essential personal care items from popular brands such as Olay, Old Spice, Pantene, and more. Participants will have access to shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and fresh towels for their convenience.
Community Support
Beyond the immediate service offerings, P&G plans to distribute personal care kits filled with essential hygiene products. These packs will include vital supplies from well-known brands, including Always, Bounty, Charmin, Crest, Dawn, Febreze, Ivory, Gillette, and more. This initiative not only addresses immediate physical needs but also aims to uplift the community’s spirits during a challenging recovery period.
Claude Zukowski, Senior Director of Community Impact at P&G, emphasized the company's commitment: “P&G exists to serve consumers through trusted products that meet their everyday needs, and that commitment extends to times of disaster like this.” The initiative reflects P&G’s long-standing dedication to support communities through their products, especially when they are under duress.
Future Plans
Relief teams will be operating daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM ET (or until daily capacity is reached), providing assistance and supplies to the communities that have been most significantly affected. For ongoing updates including capacity changes and operational notifications, affected residents are encouraged to follow Matthew 25 Ministries' social media pages.
Media Access
The media is invited to cover current events and can arrange interviews, photos, and video capture at the relief site. Contact details are provided for coordination. This opportunity will help raise awareness of the community's needs and the supportive actions being taken.
In times of adversity, the spirit of community shines through, and P&G’s initiatives reflect a commitment not only to providing material help but also to fostering resilience and hope among those faced with such hardship. As the affected areas begin to rebuild, the support from organizations like P&G serves as an encouraging beacon of recovery.
