Zeus Unveils PFX™ Platform and PFX Flex™ for Catheter Innovation Advancements

Zeus Introduces the PFX™ Platform

In a groundbreaking development, Zeus has officially launched its PFX™ platform, a game-changing approach to catheter design that prioritizes performance, flexibility, and sustainability. This innovative platform is coupled with the introduction of PFX Flex™ Sub-Lite-Wall™, a next-generation catheter liner that serves as an alternative to the traditional film-cast PTFE materials widely used in the industry.

The Evolution of Catheter Performance

For many years, PTFE has set the benchmark for catheter materials due to its unmatched performance characteristics. However, as the landscape of medical device design evolves, manufacturers are seeking materials that not only retain high performance but also offer enhanced adaptability and scalability. The PFX platform represents this shift, integrating a suite of non-fluorinated polymer solutions that provide the performance metrics RD engineers have relied upon, while simultaneously paving the way for novel catheter designs and production methods.

Paddy O'Brien, the CEO of Zeus, emphasized the company's forward-thinking philosophy, saying, "PFX reflects how we think about innovation at Zeus. It's about anticipating our customers' needs and investing in future developments." This perspective allows Zeus to further solidify its leadership in polymer science and assist OEMs in confidently designing the next generation of medical devices.

PFX Flex™ Sub-Lite-Wall™: A Product Overview

The flagship product under the PFX platform, PFX Flex Sub-Lite-Wall™, is designed to provide the same level of lubricity and flexibility akin to PTFE without the need for additives or coatings. Notably, the material bonds directly to thermoplastics without involving chemical etching, and it is compatible with various sterilization methods such as gamma and e-beam.

These liners are available in a wide range of inner diameters, from 0.013" to 0.387", thus enhancing design freedom for an array of catheter platforms. This flexibility opens up opportunities for applications that previously relied solely on film-cast solutions.

Suresh Sainath, the CTO of Zeus, shares, "For a long time, PTFE was considered irreplaceable in high-performance catheter applications. The PFX platform challenges that notion, providing a viable alternative that matches performance where it counts and fosters new levels of design flexibility. This marks a significant milestone in catheter material science."

A Comprehensive and Sustainable Platform

Beyond individual products, the PFX platform is structured as a scalable solution that can adapt to the evolving needs of catheter manufacturing. Zeus has already commenced the development of additional products under the PFX umbrella, including advanced catheter liners and heat-shrink solutions, which are anticipated to debut later this year.

Zeus has also integrated sustainability into the DNA of the PFX platform, providing a material solution that meets the long-term environmental goals and supply chain considerations of its customers. This commitment ensures that OEMs can pursue innovative designs without having to compromise on performance or reliability.

Jim O'Connell, Chief Commercial Officer at Zeus, notes, "Our customers wish to progress without assuming undue risk. PFX offers them a solid foundation to engage early on, explore new design concepts, and attain a first-mover advantage as catheter technology evolves, all while keeping their sustainability objectives in sight."
