Ice Cold Delights: A Summer Menu to Chill
As summer 2025 heats up with unprecedented temperature records, hitting over 20 days of extreme June heat, it’s clear that our approach to enjoying the season must shift.
Spice Works Holdings, led by president Wataru Shimotono, has taken a proactive stand against the scorching heat by launching a special “Ice Menu” across various dining establishments. Their goal? To help everyone cope with and enjoy the summer’s intensity, rather than merely enduring it.
Introducing the Ice Soba
One of the standout offerings is the
Ice Soba, priced at 1,390 yen (tax included). The inspiration behind this innovative dish came from a necessity—when served warm, soba can lose its appeal during the heat. Thus, the idea to envelop the soba in ice was born.
Nami no, located in Toritsu Daigaku, serves hand-made soba that is meticulously crafted to highlight flavor, aroma, color, and texture. It follows a philosophy of fresh, on-site preparation:
- - Freshly Milled: Using custom-milled buckwheat flour.
- - Handcrafted: Made by skilled artisans.
- - Cooked to Order: Prepared right after an order is placed.
Once you take a bite of the refreshingly cold soba, you will indeed forget all about the sweltering temperatures outside. As you continue, the contrasting temperatures amplify the flavor of the buckwheat, making for a delightful culinary experience. It’s the perfect summer dish that respects the season's traditions while offering a cooling touch, all without compromising the dipping sauce’s flavor.
