BAU SHIBUYA: A New Creative Hub in Shibuya
The educational institution, Kwansei Gakuin, has officially opened "BAU SHIBUYA" in Shibuya, Tokyo, transforming a former educational facility into a vibrant creative space. This opening marks a significant milestone for the institution, which is influenced by the philosophies and practices of Germany's renowned Bauhaus school of art and design.
In a move to adapt these historic ideals to a modern context, BAU SHIBUYA aims to serve as a beacon of creativity and cultural exchange, capturing the essence of contemporary Shibuya. Located just a one-minute walk from the main building of the Shuan Design Institute, in a four-story reinforced concrete structure with one basement level, the facility is strategically positioned to attract both locals and visitors alike.
Facility Overview
BAU SHIBUYA houses various creative spaces aimed at fostering innovation.
- - First Floor and Basement: These levels feature the creative engagement spaces named "Forum 1" and "Forum BF". These areas are designed for exhibitions, workshops, and events that encourage dialogue and creativity among users.
- - Second Floor and Above: The upper levels provide interactive areas such as the Shuan Design Institute's exchange spaces, classrooms, and terraces, integrating academic activities with community engagement.
Upcoming Exhibitions
The institution is already looking towards the future with an exciting lineup of exhibitions planned. Beginning in May 2026, BAU SHIBUYA will kick off the “60th Anniversary Project of Zokei University.” The schedule will include:
