Introducing Indonesia's First FAST Media Alliance: A New Era of Streaming Television
Indonesia's First FAST Media Alliance Launched
On August 7, 2026, a groundbreaking initiative took place in Jakarta with the establishment of Indonesia’s first industry alliance for FAST (Free Ad-supported Streaming TV). This innovative collaboration aims to unite broadcasters, technology firms, and media organizations to spearhead the digital transformation of television in the country.
The Indonesia FAST Media Alliance is a joint effort between Coolita and the China Intercontinental Communication Center (CICC), showcasing a coalition of Indonesia's leading state and private broadcasters, including TVRI, Metro TV, GARUDA TV, BTV, Jawa Pos Multimedia, and JAKTV, all while leveraging Tencent Cloud as a technology partner.
The concept of FAST merges the familiar experience of linear television with the advantages of internet delivery and ad-supported streaming, providing a unique multimedia experience. As content providers globally pivot towards FAST to extend the reach of their channels, the focus shifts towards delivering localized content to Smart TV audiences and exploring new digital distribution models.
The formation of this new alliance seeks to facilitate Indonesian broadcasters in navigating the rapidly changing landscape of media consumption. Members of the alliance will collaborate on developing FAST channels, distributing digital content, and enhancing technological partnerships while retaining the strengths of traditional free-to-air television.
Moreover, the alliance is anticipated to foster a broader cooperation among the Indonesian media sector and international stakeholders, paving the way for a robust ecosystem in the streaming arena. Coolita, as a co-initiator, operates a smart TV platform spreading across over 100 countries and regions, currently serving more than 40 million users worldwide, including over five million in Indonesia alone. Its FAST service, Coolita Channel, offers an impressive selection of more than 1,000 free channels covering news, sports, films, and more, thereby providing broadcasters with a well-established CTV distribution platform.
This significant development was announced during the China–Indonesia Youth Cultural Exchange Series held in Jakarta, where industry representatives gathered to discuss the future of television, digital media, and the FAST model. Participants recognized the critical importance of enhanced collaboration among broadcasters, tech providers, and content partners, particularly in light of the ongoing shift towards CTV consumption. The joint efforts are essential for driving the next phase of development in Indonesia's television sector.
The Indonesia FAST Media Alliance is envisioned as an open industry platform, set to expand as more broadcasters, rights holders, and partners from the ecosystem engage in shaping the Indonesian FAST market. This initiative embodies a transformative step forward, laying the groundwork for a dynamic and inclusive future in the realm of streaming television in Indonesia.
