KRAFTON Unleashes Major Update for MIMESIS
KRAFTON, renowned for its groundbreaking games, has just rolled out its first major update for the cooperative horror game
MIMESIS. Developed by the creative studio
ReLU Games, this update promises to elevate the player experience significantly. At its core, this update enhances the AI-driven NPCs, tagged as
Mimesis, and restructures the game's progression mechanics.
Update Details
This major update was shaped using feedback collected during the early access phase, providing players with what they most desired. Here are the key aspects of the update:
Enhanced AI-driven NPCs and Restructured Gameplay
One of the highlights of this update is the refined judgment logic of the game’s AI monsters,
Mimesis. Unlike traditional cooperative horror game enemies that follow pre-designed behavior patterns,
Mimesis has been programmed to learn from in-game sounds and player actions. This feature allows the monsters to recognize their surroundings and react in real time.
The method and timing of the NPCs approaching players have also been made more dynamic and varied. By incorporating unique traits, each AI NPC displays distinct behaviors, ensuring that players are constantly faced with new and unpredictable challenges instead of repetitive patterns.
Moreover, the game’s progression system has been overhauled. The previously rigid three-day cycle has been modified to enhance flexibility, allowing for dynamic difficulty adjustments. Early gameplay now encourages natural player adaptation, while the late game increases tension dramatically. The aim is to reduce predictability, lightening reliance on memorized enemy movements and simplifying entry barriers for new players, while still challenging seasoned fans with unique decisions and responses during each playthrough.
Expanded Content: Maps, Monsters, and Gear
The map has also seen extensive expansion. New layout designs have been incorporated into factories, subway stations, and mansion dungeons, and outdoor areas have been redesigned for better navigation and resource exploration. This expansion ensures that players can engage with diverse environments while collecting vital resources.
Additionally, new monsters and environmental mechanics have been introduced, along with performance-enhancing upgrades for key equipment. Players can now employ resources in novel ways, adding a strategic layer to gameplay.
Spectator mechanics have also been modified. After a player is eliminated, they can possess the monsters that threatened them, enabling dialogue with surviving teammates and maintaining a sense of engagement even post-elimination.
Insights from ReLU Games
Kim Min-jung, CEO of ReLU Games, stated, “
MIMESIS serves not just as a tool aided by AI in the development process but has become an integral element capable of innovating the gaming experience. This update marks a pivotal shift in how AI influences the grammar of cooperative horror games. With a strong foundation in technological development and conceptual planning, we are dedicated to the bold challenge of merging AI with gaming, ensuring unique gameplay experiences.”
What is MIMESIS?
MIMESIS is a four-player cooperative horror game utilizing AI technology. The AI-driven NPCs mimic players’ actions and sounds in real time, blending into their ranks, heightening suspense and thrill. As an “AI-native game,” it embodies more than just system elements; it functions as a crucial gear that shapes the gaming experience.
Since its early access release last October,
MIMESIS surpassed one million sales worldwide within just 50 days. In June, it was awarded the Excellence Award in Game Design at
CEDEC 2026, the biggest game developer conference in Japan, a testament to its integration of AI in game development.
KRAFTON plans to expand
MIMESIS into a large-scale franchise, leveraging community feedback and creating even richer gaming experiences in the future. For more details about
