REACH LA's Gala: A Night to Honor LGBTQ+ Changemakers
On February 15, 2025, Los Angeles will host the
3rd Annual Celebration Gala organized by REACH LA, a community organization dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ individuals of color. This year, the gala will spotlight
Michelle Buteau, the renowned actress and comedian, alongside
Amber Whittington, a prominent creator and activist, as honorees. Both women have left an indelible mark on the LGBTQ+ community through their advocacy and artistry.
The event, set to occur at historic
Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles, aims to raise significant funds to support
wildfire relief efforts in the LA area. As the community grapples with the aftermath of recent natural disasters, 100% of the proceeds from ticket sales will directly support essential services, including free mental health therapy, clothing donations, and transportation for those impacted by the fires. This commitment to community welfare aligns with REACH LA's mission to empower marginalized voices.
Honoring Trailblazers
Michelle Buteau, celebrated for her compelling narration on
Netflix's The Circle and her hit series
Survival of the Thickest, will receive the
Creative Arts Allyship Award. This accolade recognizes her unwavering dedication to promoting LGBTQ+ representation in the arts. Speaking about the honor, Buteau shared, "Receiving this award from REACH LA, an organization doing such important work with LGBTQIA+ youth of color in Los Angeles, is such an honor for me. My goal is to create a diverse and beautiful world in my art, inspiring those advocating for inclusivity in all spaces."
Joining Buteau in recognition is Amber Whittington, known on social media as
@AmbersCloset. She will be presented with the
Community Activist Award for her pioneering contributions to LGBTQ+ advocacy and her ability to educate and empower marginalized communities through her platform. Whittington's efforts have even reached the national stage, illustrating her commitment to creating safe spaces for the LGBTQ+ community. Her activism extends beyond the confines of social media to influential venues, including
The White House.
