Revolutionizing Tourist Assistance with AI
In an innovative leap toward enhancing tourist experiences, Nextremer, based in Kochi Prefecture, is joining forces with Tokyu Corporation and the Shibuya Tourism Association. Starting in October 2025, they will launch a pilot project utilizing an interactive AI known as "AI Minarai". This experiment will take place at prominent tourist information centers in Shibuya, specifically at "SHIBU HACHI BOX" and "WANDER COMPASS SHIBUYA". The main goal of this initiative is to streamline the efficiency of tourism guidance services while standardizing customer interaction skills.
Background of the Project
With the rising number of foreign tourists visiting Japan, tourist information centers face growing demands for multilingual support and quick, accurate information dissemination. However, these centers are also burdened by the challenges of hiring and training staff, which can lead to inconsistencies in service quality. Nextremer aims to tackle these issues by automating routine inquiries through AI, allowing staff to focus on providing value-added services.
Overview of the Pilot Program
The pilot program will be executed in collaboration with Tokyu and the Shibuya Tourism Association at the aforementioned locations. Tourists can access the AI chat feature via QR codes posted at the information centers. The AI will respond to questions about train stations, tourist attractions, and surrounding amenities in a conversational manner. Supported languages will include Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean. The data collected from these interactions will be anonymized and analyzed statistically to improve the accuracy of guidance and optimize operational procedures. Importantly, no personal information will be collected, ensuring privacy and preventing misuse.
About AI Minarai
AI Minarai is Nextremer's proprietary conversational AI platform designed to assist organizations and municipalities in providing inquiry and service support. The system is intentionally configured for real-world applications and continuously learns from dialogue data to offer more natural and practical responses. Its capabilities include voice and chat support, multilingual assistance, and the visualization and improvement of operational data. This pilot will evaluate the automation of routine responses and the leveling of service skills in tourist guidance,
aiming to integrate AI in operational efficiency.
Future Outlook
Building on insights gained from this pilot, Nextremer plans to explore further possibilities for AI applications in tourism and public sector domains. Beyond tourist information centers, the company is considering expansion into commercial facilities, transportation, and government offices. This initiative aims to address local challenges and promote digital transformation in various spheres. Ultimately, Nextremer envisions a society where human and AI collaboration creates richer customer experiences.
