Volvo Trucks Marks a Milestone with Record Gas-Powered Truck Order
Volvo Trucks Achieves Record Order for Gas-Powered Trucks
Volvo Trucks has made headlines by securing its largest-ever order for gas-powered trucks, a significant triumph in the push for more sustainable transport solutions. The order, amounting to 500 Volvo FH Aero trucks, was placed by German transport giant Reinert Logistics, highlighting the growing acceptance of alternative fuels across various markets aimed at cutting carbon emissions.
An Upward Trend in Gas-Powered Trucks
After experiencing a historic sales year in 2025 for its gas-powered truck lineup, Volvo is on track for an even stronger year in 2026. The recent contract was signed at the IAA Transportation Fair in Hanover, Germany, which serves as a testament to the increasing interest in green logistics. Reinert Logistics, after trialing 50 Volvo gas-powered trucks, was motivated by positive operational experiences and the favorable economics of using gas fuel to expand its fleet significantly.
René Reinert, the founder and owner of Reinert Logistics, expressed his enthusiasm at the contract signing, stating, "We recognized early on that bio-LNG was the right solution for us. Being able to operate our trucks with a locally produced fuel made from manure, organic waste or biogenic residues is simply brilliant. Our experience in daily operations has reinforced our determination to continue consistently along this path – also because Volvo Trucks has an excellent service network for gas-powered trucks."
This growing demand for gas-powered trucks supports Volvo’s vision of a more sustainable transport industry. To date, the company has supplied more than 10,000 gas-powered trucks around the globe, with its gas engines being integrated into the heavy-duty Volvo FM, FH, and FH Aero models.
Features That Make a Difference
Volvo's gas-powered trucks can cover an impressive range of up to 1,000 kilometers on a single tank of gas, making them ideal for long-haul and regional transport as well as use in construction. In light of this, they offer a practical alternative amidst a growing demand among transport operators and freight buyers for low-emission solutions.
A well-established network of gas filling stations, particularly in countries like Germany, Norway, Finland, and Sweden, further facilitates the adoption of these innovative trucks. The German gas and hydrogen association reported that bio-LNG comprised around 98.5% of the total fuel sold at German LNG filling stations in 2025. This means many users can reach up to 100% reductions in CO2 emissions, enhancing the appeal of bio-LNG as a cost-effective solution.
A Comprehensive Decarbonization Strategy
Volvo Trucks' strategy for decarbonization is multifaceted, extending beyond gas-powered solutions to battery-electric and fuel-cell electric technologies. As the world increasingly turns to renewable energy sources, trucks powered by biofuels are becoming a crucial component of reducing the carbon footprint of the transport sector.
Jan Hjelmgren, Head of Product Management at Volvo Trucks, commented on the order, stating, "We see a strong demand for our gas-powered trucks and are pleased to welcome Reinert Logistics as a customer and partner. Volvo's gas engine technology leads the market in power, torque, engine response, and fuel efficiency. This order demonstrates that sustainable transport can be a highly cost-effective alternative available today."
In the quest for decarbonization, the blend of innovative technology and market readiness is paving the way for a new era in transportation, one that emphasizes sustainability while ensuring economic viability. As companies like Reinert Logistics showcase their commitment to greener solutions, the transport industry is poised for transformation, with Volvo Trucks at the forefront of this shift.
