Kiehl's Launches Circular Economy Campaign to Honor Nature This June

Kiehl's Embraces Sustainability with 'Kiehl’s Mission Renewal'

Kiehl's, a beloved skincare brand established in 1851 in New York's East Village, is known for its commitment to sustainability and responsible resource management. In line with its mission, Kiehl's is excited to announce the launch of the 'Kiehl’s Mission Renewal' campaign, which will run from June 4 to June 16, with an extension to June 17 for its official online store.

The 'Kiehl’s Mission Renewal' Initiative

This campaign embodies Kiehl's long-standing dedication to environmental stewardship, which began with the founding of 'Kiehl's Forest' in 2020 in partnership with the non-profit organization, more trees. This initiative focuses on minimizing waste through eco-friendly refill products and rewarding customers who bring back empty containers to Kiehl's stores with double reward points. Throughout the campaign duration, customers will be able to participate in several activities aimed at fostering a circular economy.

A Closer Look at Kiehl's Forest

Launched in 2020, Kiehl’s Forest has become a beacon for promoting biodiversity through appropriate afforestation and thinning practices. Nestled in Chizu Town, Tottori Prefecture—one of Japan's leading forestry areas with a rich history spanning 350 years—Kiehl's Forest aims to cultivate a diverse ecosystem comprising both coniferous and deciduous trees. Customers have actively supported this initiative; for every shopping trip where they decline a shopping bag, Kiehl's donates ¥10 to more trees, which has led to the planting of 470 trees over 1.81 hectares. More than 1.3 million customers have joined this greening movement, demonstrating a collective passion for sustainability.

Plastic Reduction Efforts

Kiehl’s is committed to reducing plastic waste through the use of refill products and recyclable packaging. The brand has successfully reduced water usage by 21% and waste by 36% since 2005. Across all Kiehl's stores, recycling boxes are available for customers to return empty containers. During the campaign, customers purchasing 'Kiehl’s Cream UFC' will receive a spatula made from recycled materials, and those buying refill products will earn double refill points, alongside reward points for recycling.

Campaign Highlights

  • - Kiehl's Cream UFC Refill: Customers will receive a recycled plastic spatula for each purchase.
  • - Donation to more trees: For every shopping trip, Kiehl's will donate ¥10 to support tree planting initiatives.
  • - Double Points Specials:
- 20 recycling points for returning empty containers (usually 10 points).
- 100 refill points for purchasing refill products (usually 50 points).
- 20 no-bag points for declining shopping bags (usually 10 points).

This campaign represents Kiehl's ongoing commitment to giving back to the earth and fostering sustainable practices. As part of this mission, Kiehl’s continues to innovate and adapt, ensuring that beauty and care for the planet go hand in hand.
