Background of the Initiative

From September 7 to 10, 2026, BLUETTI and UN-Habitat organized their second joint initiative in Benue State, Nigeria, following a successful first collaboration in Kenya in 2025. This initiative aims to address energy scarcity by implementing solar energy solutions tailored for the local population, enhancing their living conditions through improved access to reliable electricity.

Workshop on Solar Energy

The event included a comprehensive workshop held at Rev. Fr. Orshio Adasu University in Makurdi, focused on solar energy principles and applications. During this workshop, BLUETTI donated 50 solar light and storage kits to facilitate practical training for students and community members. The workshop not only educated participants but also aimed to raise awareness about the benefits of clean energy in surrounding communities through the newly launched Campus Ambassador Programme.

Community Impact

The initiative expanded its reach to Elwata, a community in the Guma Local Government Area, where reliable electricity is still a luxury for many houses. As part of their commitment to empower vulnerable groups, BLUETTI donated 180 additional solar kits to households led by women or the elderly, significantly benefiting over 1,000 residents. This improved access to electricity has transformed the daily lives of these families, enabling better education, communication, and overall community development.

James Ray, a representative from BLUETTI, expressed pride in collaborating with UN-Habitat again, stating, "It is an honor to take part in this joint initiative with UN-Habitat. Our program has extended from East Africa to West Africa, reflecting our shared commitment to advancing clean energy access in more communities across Africa." To date, the LAAF program has positively impacted over 60,000 individuals across the continent.

Future Goals

The ongoing collaboration is projected to contribute to a reduction of approximately 337.5 tons of carbon emissions over the next five years, fostering sustainability and enhanced community welfare.
