Art Meets Hot Water in Harajuku: Jinny Street Gallery and Kosugi-yu Collaboration

The Art of Hot Water in Harajuku: The 'Yuasobi' Exhibition

Location: Jinny Street Gallery, Jingumae 2-chome, Tokyo
Exhibition Dates: June 20 to July 18, 2025

Jinny Street Gallery, an innovative street art venue located in the heart of Harajuku, is set to launch its latest exhibition titled 'Yuasobi' on June 20, 2025. This exciting showcase is the result of a collaboration with the newly opened Kosugi-yu Harajuku, a bathhouse located within the trendy Tokyu Plaza Harajuku.

Reviving Onsen Culture Through Art

The 'Yuasobi' exhibition aims to revitalize the charm of traditional Japanese onsen culture through the lens of contemporary art. Featuring works from 33 artists both local and international, the exhibition invites visitors to explore the theme of 'hot water' and its multifaceted meanings.

The diversity of artistic mediums represented in the exhibition is remarkable, as it includes photography, installations, illustrations, and three-dimensional works. Each artist provides a unique interpretation of the traditional bathhouse experience, and their works will be displayed against the backdrop of Jinny Street Gallery’s atmospheric street lamps. This sense of place adds another layer of meaning to the pieces showcased, creating a dialogue between art and community.

Among the participating artists are those selected through a call for entries aimed at Kosugi-yu’s patrons, highlighting the deep connection between the exhibition and the local culture. After exploring the various artworks, visitors can stroll through Harajuku before heading to Kosugi-yu, making for a seamless and enriching experience of art and relaxation.

Special Collaboration Events and Limited Edition Drinks

To commemorate the 'Yuasobi' exhibition, a special limited edition lemon sour drink will be launched at Kosugi-yu Harajuku. This exclusive beverage is created in collaboration with 'Open Book,' a lemon sour specialty shop in Shinjuku, and features a unique design that reflects the worlds of both Jinny and Kosugi-yu.

From June 20 to 22, 2025, visitors can enjoy the 'Jinny Lemon Sour' at Kosugi-yu, complete with a special label that can only be found at this location. In addition to drinks, Jinny and the local artisanal brand 'Kamanue' are working together to produce original tenugui hand towels, with further details to be announced on social media.
