Enhanced Facilities and Technology

The allocation of funds will primarily focus on leasing new facilities and upgrading advanced material handling systems. One major aspect of this investment involves relocating DHL's Manhattan service center to a modern facility located at 16 Van Keuren Ave, Suite 100 in Jersey City, New Jersey. This move, scheduled for completion by the end of November 2025, positions the facility just five miles from Lower Manhattan. The new site spans an impressive 92,505 square feet and incorporates a well-thought-out design aimed at maximizing operational efficiency and improving employee safety.

The facility’s new features include a more streamlined layout that enables better accessibility for courier vehicles, enhanced charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, and improved dispatch capabilities. With the integration of state-of-the-art material handling technology, DHL anticipates that the new operations will be able to sort twice the volume of packages compared to the old facility, increasing capacity from 3,000 to 6,000 conveyable pieces per hour. This improvement is set to dramatically optimize throughput and overall efficiency.

In addition to the Manhattan service center relocation, significant upgrades have also been completed at DHL’s Brooklyn service center. The facility has moved into a newly constructed 70,202-square-foot building at 1970 Pitkin Ave, which is nearly three times the size of its prior location. This expansion provides ample room for growth and facilitates improved operational flow. The sort capacity at this facility has similarly doubled from 1,500 to 3,000 conveyable pieces per hour, bolstering service reliability and speed across Brooklyn.

The enhancements in operational capability are part of a larger, thoughtful initiative aimed at strengthening DHL Express’ overall network across the Greater New York City area. This includes integration across facilities located in Long Island City, Hauppauge, Brooklyn, and the Bronx, as this effort seeks to balance shipment volumes and alleviate pressure on high-demand locations to improve overall network efficiency.

Improved Connectivity and Logistics

To optimize service even further, DHL Express has made changes to its global hub in Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky (CVG). The hub will now have a direct connection to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). This significant update brings DHL's aircraft closer to Manhattan's primary service center in Jersey City, with existing facilities in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, and Long Island continuing their connectivity through JFK Airport. These improvements are expected to reduce transit times, enhance reliability, and fortify service performance throughout the region.
