Thailand Unveils 'The New Thailand' Vision at ITB Berlin 2026
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) made a notable presence at the prestigious ITB Berlin 2026, introducing its revitalized global positioning with the 'New Thailand' vision. This event marked the 60th anniversary of ITB, the world's largest travel trade fair, held in Berlin from March 3 to March 5. TAT aims to strengthen Thailand's status as a world-class travel destination through the theme 'Unforgettable Experience: Healing is the New Luxury.'
This ambitious initiative emphasizes three core elements: healing-led luxury, sustainable tourism routes, and the discovery of hidden gems, all tailored to attract the European market. The TAT's participation also received a royal touch with the attendance of Her Royal Highness Princess Ubolratana, who personally engaged in showcasing Thailand's culinary heritage by preparing the traditional Som Tam Thad, a popular papaya salad.
Governor Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool conveyed that ITB 2026 serves as an instrumental platform for effectively communicating the 'New Thailand' vision. She highlighted the increasing global desire for wellness and meaningful travel experiences, stating that the country's focus on sustainability and hidden treasures provides a competitive edge in appealing to discerning European travelers. Germany is particularly significant as a key long-haul market, where expectations for safety, quality, and responsible tourism are paramount.
The Thailand Pavilion presented a contemporary image, representing the convergence of wellness, culture, and authenticity. Leading a delegation of 165 Thai tourism stakeholders, TAT engaged in high-level business negotiations with international buyers. Notably, 89 operators showcased sustainability certifications and awards, demonstrating significant strides towards responsible tourism standards.
Highlights of the pavilion included a robust presentation of hidden gems across various regions of Thailand—from Sukhothai and Nan in the north, to Suphan Buri and Ratchaburi in the central region, and Satun and Trang in the south. TAT showcased 10 eco-friendly itineraries, including the 'Krabi Travel With Care' and 20 low-carbon travel routes, backed by recognized sustainability standards to cater to environmentally-conscious European travelers.
Another significant attraction at the pavilion was the Saneh Thai Café, where culinary tourism took center stage through the themes of Wellness on a Plate and Worth-Life Balance. Visitors were offered 20 curated routes that intertwined gastronomy with well-being. Also featured were eco-friendly products crafted from marine debris and recycled materials, including driftwood art and interactive DIY souvenir activities that emphasized Thailand's commitment to creative and responsible tourism.
Concurrent with ITB Berlin, TAT's initiatives extended to the Amazing Thailand Fest 2026, transforming the KaDeWe luxury department store into a vibrant showcase of Thai cuisine and culture, further stimulating travel interest. In 2025, Thailand welcomed 965,898 German visitors, reflecting a 10.60% increase from the previous year. The positive trend has continued into 2026, underlining Germany's role in Thailand's long-term tourism strategy.
TAT's commitment to fostering the German market is evident with targeted products focusing on leisure, wellness, and nature tourism, alongside promoting hidden gems that appeal to environmentally-aware travelers. An Amazing Thailand Networking Event scheduled for March 4 aims to engage international media and trade partners further in promoting the concepts under the healing luxury initiative.
By participating at ITB Berlin 2026, TAT anticipates generating an impressive economic value of over 5.568 billion Baht, reinforcing Thailand's goal of becoming a high-value, unforgettable travel destination in the years ahead. The well-orchestrated marketing strategy reflects a future-ready approach, ensuring that Thailand remains at the forefront of international tourism and sustainable practices.
As Thailand continues to evolve its tourism offerings, the emphasis on wellness, sustainability, and unique experiences positions it favorably in a competitive market, inviting travelers from around the globe to explore the wonders that await in 'The New Thailand.'
