New Leadership at Global Lyme Alliance: Brett Kristoff and Charles Balducci Take the Helm
New Era for Global Lyme Alliance
The Global Lyme Alliance (GLA), a leading nonprofit focused on combating Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses, has announced a significant leadership transition. Effective July 1, 2026, Brett Kristoff and Charles Balducci were appointed as Co-Chairs of the Board of Directors. This transition marks a new chapter for GLA as it continues to enhance its mission through innovative research and patient advocacy.
Brett Kristoff and Charles Balducci have both held prominent roles within GLA, succeeding Paul B. Ross, who has presided over the board during crucial years for the organization. Under Ross's leadership, GLA successfully expanded its investments in scientific research and patient programs to over $27 million, contributing significantly to Lyme disease research and patient education.
Remarks on Leadership Transition
Upon concluding his tenure, Ross expressed his optimism for GLA's future, crediting the board, staff, researchers, donors, and volunteers for their dedication. “As my term as Chairman concludes, I do so with tremendous optimism,” said Ross. “Global Lyme Alliance is stronger than ever because of the extraordinary dedication of our Board, staff, researchers, donors, and volunteers.”
Jennifer Katritos, the CEO of GLA, praised Ross's contributions and highlighted the strong foundation he built. She stated, “His commitment to scientific excellence, strong governance, and our mission has positioned the organization for continued growth and impact.” With the new co-chairs, Kristoff and Balducci, she sees a bright future for advancing the organization’s strategic objectives and enhancing patient care.
Personal Motivations for Leadership
Charles Balducci's personal journey with Lyme disease significantly shaped his commitment to advocacy and research. Balducci battled a severe case of Lyme carditis in 2004, and this life-altering experience prompted him to join the efforts for better patient support. Having previously served as Vice Chair, he has a deep understanding of the organization's goals and values.
Reflecting on his journey, Balducci remarked, “More than twenty years ago, Lyme disease nearly took my life. That experience changed everything for me and inspired a lifelong commitment to helping others facing this disease.” He hopes his leadership will continue to build on GLA’s success and awareness.
On the other hand, Brett Kristoff’s involvement with GLA was inspired by her daughter's struggle with Lyme disease. As a former Senior Art Director at Young & Rubicam, Kristoff has brought valuable skills that have helped shape GLA's communications and fundraising strategies over the last decade. She stated, “What began as a deeply personal journey for my family has become a lifelong commitment to helping others affected by Lyme disease.”
Future Goals and Strategies
Together, Kristoff and Balducci bring a wealth of experience and a shared dedication to improving the lives of those affected by Lyme disease. Their leadership will focus on expanding research investments, enhancing patient support, and raising public awareness about the issues surrounding Lyme and tick-borne diseases.
Working closely with Jennifer Katritos and the rest of the board, they will steer GLA through its next phase of growth. Their combined visions aim to elevate GLA’s presence in the community and ensure that the organization remains at the forefront of Lyme disease research and patient advocacy. The overarching goal is to foster better diagnostics, treatment options, and ultimately, cures for those affected by Lyme disease.
