The Winners and Their Impact

This year’s awards spotlighted Shari Rice from Omaha, Nebraska, who claimed the National Nurse of the Year title, and LaDonna Chaney from Chesapeake, Virginia, awarded the National Caregiver of the Year.

Shari Rice, RN – National Nurse of the Year

Shari was recognized for her unwavering support and calming presence in the pediatric care setting. A pivotal moment in her care approach came when she was able to alleviate a young patient’s anxiety surrounding infusion treatments. Shari formed a trusting bond with her patient, significantly reducing their fears. Beyond her medical expertise, she utilized her creativity to 3D print figures of the child's favorite characters, adding a personal touch that transformed their treatment experience into a joyful memory.

LaDonna Chaney – National Caregiver of the Year

LaDonna's award-winning approach was highlighted by the profound connections she created with her client during their last year of life. Known for her compassionate spirit, she organized a memorable birthday celebration that included a performance by a family choir, a gesture her client cherished deeply. This celebration, filled with love and joy, marked a lasting impression on both the client and her family, exemplifying LaDonna’s dedication to providing a full and enriching care experience.
