Daitokentaku's 2025 Tokai Region Municipal Brand Rankings Unveiled

Unveiling the 2025 Tokai Region Municipal Brand Rankings

Daitokentaku Inc., headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo, has recently conducted a wide-ranging brand survey involving over 182,000 responders. The results were compiled into the "2025 Tokai Region Municipal Brand Rankings," shedding light on how various municipalities are perceived across Japan. The rankings are determined using a method called brand deviation value, which factors in the Image DI—calculated as the difference between the percentage of positive and negative perceptions—multiplied by brand recognition rates.

Survey Overview

The research methodology was extensive, utilizing MacroMill’s registrant monitors, with the surveys distributed and collected via the Internet. Key details of the survey are:
  • - Participants: A total of 182,805 individuals aged 20 and above from all 47 prefectures, representing a myriad of 1,890 municipalities. The gender split recorded was 55.2% male and 44.8% female. Among participants, 38.3% were single while 61.7% were married. Notably, 42.7% reported having no children, while 57.3% had children.
  • - Demographic Breakdown: Respondents ranged through various age brackets: 8.9% in their 20s, 16.6% in their 30s, 22.9% in their 40s, 26.8% in their 50s, 18.1% in their 60s, and 6.6% in their 70s.
  • - Survey Period: The data collection took place from February 21 to March 10, 2025, accumulating responses from 182,805 individuals.

The organizational structure of the survey involved planning, question design, and analysis by Ken So, a fellow at Daitokentaku’s rental future research institute. In partnership with MacroMill, the survey was distributed and responses were collected effectively.

Response Process

Respondents were provided with six options pertaining to their familiarity and experiences with various municipalities, excluding their place of residence. The options included: 1) "I have lived there" 2) "I haven't lived there but have visited" 3) "I have a good image of it" 4) "I have a bad image of it" 5) "I have heard of it but don’t have a particular impression" 6) "I haven't heard of it at all." The resulting percentages for each of these responses were calculated to inform the brand scores.

The rankings take into account the percentage of respondents who have either lived in or visited the municipalities, based on the cumulative totals of the first two response options.

Importance and Further Insights

This survey serves not just as an indicator of brand perception but reflects broader societal dynamics and residents' feelings about their municipalities. Daitokentaku aims to promote better community development through these insights.
