Viatris Appoints Matthew J. Maletta as New Chief Legal Officer Amid Transition

Viatris Announces Appointment of Matthew J. Maletta as Chief Legal Officer

In a significant leadership transition, Viatris Inc. has appointed Matthew J. Maletta as its new Chief Legal Officer (CLO), effective from February 9, 2026. This announcement was made public in a press release dated February 3, 2026, serving as an essential part of the company’s ongoing commitment to strengthening their legal framework in a constantly evolving pharmaceutical landscape.

Matthew J. Maletta brings nearly three decades of extensive legal experience to Viatris, specifically in the pharmaceutical sector. Before this role, he served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer at Endo International, where he successfully navigated the complexities of a major merger with Mallinckrodt and a subsequent spin-off of Par Health during his tenure from 2015 to 2025. His profound expertise in leading legal teams through transformative initiatives has been a hallmark of his career.

Prior to his time at Endo, Maletta was a pivotal member of the legal team at Allergan for over a decade, where he advanced to the position of Vice President, Associate General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary. One of his notable achievements at Allergan was acting as the lead attorney during the massive $70 billion sale to Actavis. Furthermore, Maletta's career also includes his early days as an Associate Attorney at the prestigious law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.

The change in leadership is accompanied by gratitude for the existing CLO, Brian Roman, who has provided more than 20 years of dedicated service at what is now Viatris, including its predecessor, Mylan. Roman has held a variety of leadership roles within the company and has been instrumental in supporting its operations, portfolio, and growth strategies. His commitment to establishing a robust legal standing has been recognized as vital to the company’s current structure. He will assist in ensuring a seamless transition up until April 1, 2026, enabling Maletta to take charge with a solid foundation.

In a statement, Viatris CEO Scott A. Smith expressed his gratitude towards Roman, thanking him for his remarkable leadership and the pivotal role he played in developing the company.
