LONGi Launches Strategic Solar Manufacturing in Indonesia
In a groundbreaking development for the renewable energy sector, LONGi, a global leader in solar photovoltaic (PV) solutions, recently unveiled its latest initiative to construct an advanced solar panel manufacturing plant in Indonesia. This strategic endeavor, executed in partnership with Pertamina New Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE), a subsidiary of Indonesia's state-owned energy company Pertamina, underscores a shared commitment to advancing the adoption of renewable energy across Southeast Asia and supporting Indonesia's ambitious energy transition goals.
Located in Deltamas, West Java, the new facility is set to boast an impressive annual production capacity of 1.6 GW, employing LONGi's cutting-edge hybrid-passivated back contact (HPBC) 2.0 technology to produce high-efficiency solar modules. Manufacturing preparations are slated to begin in June 2025, marking a significant milestone in enhancing solar photovoltaic capacity in Indonesia.
The collaboration between LONGi and Pertamina NRE is a strategic move aimed at strengthening Indonesia's renewable energy supply chain. By merging LONGi's global expertise in solar technology with Pertamina NRE's in-depth knowledge of the local energy market, the project aims to enhance the country's domestic component level (TKDN). This aligns with the Indonesian government’s initiative to increase local content in renewable energy projects. Furthermore, the plant is expected to meet the surging demand for high-quality solar modules both domestically and within the Southeast Asian market.
According to the 2025-2034 Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL), Indonesia has set an ambitious target of installing 17.1 GW of new solar capacity over the next decade. This projection indicates a steady growth in the demand for solar energy, coinciding with the implementation of the RUPTL plan. The commencement of this project is timely, as it will continue to enhance the local photovoltaic industry's supply chain while catering to the regional market's requirements. Additionally, it will play an active role in modernizing Indonesia's local manufacturing capabilities to contribute to the sustained advancement of the photovoltaic sector.
During the launch event, Dennis She, Vice President of LONGi, emphasized the company's vision for sustainable energy development. "Indonesia holds immense potential in renewable energies, and at LONGi, we take pride in contributing our leading solar technology to this transformative process. This plant not only signifies an investment in manufacturing but also represents a long-term alliance to drive the future of clean energy in Indonesia. By localizing production, we aim to reduce costs, foster innovation, and create high-value green jobs, reinforcing our commitment to a net-zero emissions world."
As a leading global company, LONGi brings unparalleled experience and innovation to Indonesia's renewable energy landscape, further solidifying its position as a key player in sustainable energy. This milestone reflects LONGi's dedication to catalyzing the global energy transition through technological excellence and strategic partnerships, paving the way for a greener future.
