Kuradashi Begins Construction of Saitama Nagakawa Storage Power Plant



Kuradashi, headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, has taken a significant step towards enhancing Japan's renewable energy capabilities by commencing the construction of the Saitama Nagakawa Storage Power Plant. In collaboration with Tsuji-Hongo Smart Asset Corporation, Kuradashi held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of this essential project aimed at stabilizing power supply through its innovative energy storage solutions.

Background and Purpose



In February 2024, Japan's energy basic plan projected a future where renewable energy sources could make up 40-50% of the country's energy mix by the fiscal year 2040. This forward-thinking strategy emphasizes maximizing the integration of renewable energy as a primary power source. The plan outlines the necessity of establishing a next-generation power network that ensures stable energy supply while leveraging battery storage systems to manage fluctuations in renewable energy output.

Kuradashi is aligned with these national objectives as outlined in their mid-term management plan announced in August 2024, which includes the initiation of new projects in the energy sector. In December 2024, Kuradashi began exploring entry into the grid storage battery business, which was followed by the acquisition of its first project, the Tochigi Koyama Storage Power Plant, in January 2025. This marked the beginning of its commitment to developing energy storage solutions. By November 2025, Kuradashi and Tsuji-Hongo Smart Asset had reached a basic agreement to co-develop grid storage batteries, leading to the establishment of a joint venture, Kuradashi Investment LLC, in June 2026 to work on three domestic projects across Saitama, Gifu, and Kumamoto.

The Saitama Nagakawa Storage Power Plant focuses on addressing the fluctuations in renewable energy output and will play a vital role in stabilizing electricity supply. With a scheduled connection to the power grid by October 2026, the plant will offer a capacity of 2 MW and a total energy storage capacity of 8 MWh.

Future Plans



Kuradashi is committed to advancing the Saitama project in collaboration with Tsuji-Hongo Smart Asset, ensuring progress on additional projects in Gifu and Kumamoto. As stated by Tatsuya Yamaguchi, CEO of Kuradashi Energy, “We are thrilled to announce the commencement of construction at the Saitama Nagakawa Storage Power Plant, which is among the first of three projects we initiated under Kuradashi Investment LLC. We aim to ensure its grid connection by October 2026 and are dedicated to tackling the societal issue of power loss attributed to the increasing integration of renewable energy.”

Furthermore, Kuradashi plans to address the challenges posed by power loss while contributing to the construction of next-generation infrastructure to provide stable clean energy supply.
