Celebrating 75 Years of Halff's Commitment to Community and Innovation
Halff Celebrates 75 Years of Service Excellence
In 2025, Halff, a highly acclaimed employee-owned infrastructure consulting firm, proudly commemorates its 75th anniversary, reflecting on its profound commitment to enhancing lives and communities. Founded in 1950 by Dr. Albert H. Halff, the company began as a modest one-man consulting practice and has evolved into one of the largest infrastructure consulting firms in the United States, renowned for its innovative approaches and exceptional service.
Dr. Halff's original vision centered on the development of resilient infrastructure to directly benefit the communities it served. His leadership was instrumental in propelling advancements in hydraulic engineering, hydrology, and floodplain management, ultimately earning the firm 13 engineering patents. This innovative spirit remains deeply rooted in Halff’s culture, as expressed by Jessica Baker Daily, the firm’s President and CEO, who stated: "When people hear the name Halff, they think of excellence and quality of work, founded on a commitment to doing the right thing."
Over its seven-decade journey, Halff has diversified its services, becoming a comprehensive provider of infrastructure, mobility, and water solutions. The firm proudly serves both public and private sectors, including government agencies, corporate clients, educational institutions, and energy and transportation sectors. Its footprint spans Texas and beyond, with a legacy built on transformative projects that have significantly impacted local communities.
Halff’s milestone projects date back to 1951, when it initiated its work on the City of Houston's Water Treatment and Filtration Plant. The journey continued with the design of Texas Instruments' Dallas Campus in 1957, which exemplified the firm’s capabilities. The transformative work on the Bachman Branch project in 1966 significantly mitigated flooding in Dallas, showcasing Halff’s commitment to addressing crucial infrastructural challenges. Following that, the firm played a pivotal role in the design of the Copper Breaks State Park Dam in 1975 and contributed to the renovation of Fair Park in 1986.
In more recent years, Halff has shown its adaptability and innovative spirit through projects such as the Cole Park Stormwater Detention Vault in 1993, the Dallas North Tollway Extension in 2003, and the securing of permits for the Anzalduas International Bridge in McAllen in 2010. The firm has also played a crucial role in infrastructural upgrades at the Fort Smith, Arkansas Airport and is a key player in one of the nation’s largest tunnel projects—the Mill Creek Drainage Relief Tunnel in Dallas.
Adding to its impressive legacy, Halff contributed to Texas' first-ever statewide flood plan, recently approved in 2024, which exemplifies its commitment to innovation and resilience in serving communities.
A central theme throughout Halff's story is its unwavering dedication to people. This principle has become the cornerstone of its success and is celebrated through initiatives such as the Halff Community Initiative (HCI). Launched in 2017, this nonprofit organization focuses on uplifting nearby communities and addressing causes that resonate with Halff employees. With over $930,000 contributed to 423 charitable organizations since its founding, HCI embodies the spirit of giving that Dr. Halff instilled in the firm.
As Halff heads towards its next chapter, it embraces the challenges of aging infrastructure and evolving development needs. The firm’s one-stop-shop approach allows it to provide tailored expertise for each project while maintaining a focus on a people-first philosophy. Trey Murray, Halff’s Chairman of the Board, emphasizes the firm’s commitment to the collaborative and innovative legacy established by Dr. Halff, ensuring that their mission of improving lives and communities endures.
As Halff celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2025, it looks to the future with optimism and determination, forging ahead with the mission to continue serving clients and enhancing communities across the nation.
