Kentucky American Water Commences $630,000 Upgrade for Leawood Drive Water Infrastructure
Kentucky American Water has announced a significant investment of approximately $630,000 aimed at upgrading the essential water infrastructure along Leawood Drive in Lexington, Kentucky. This initiative encompasses the replacement of around half a mile of aging water main, which is crucial for maintaining water quality, supporting dependable service, and enhancing fire protection for the surrounding community. The existing 6-inch water main, installed back in the 1960s, will be replaced with a newer, more reliable 8-inch ductile iron main.
This upgrade represents Kentucky American Water's dedication to fostering an efficient and reliable water system. By focusing on strategic investments in infrastructure, the company aims to mitigate the risk of service disruptions, improve water flow for its residential and business customers, and bolster the fire protection capabilities of the area. These enhancements are not just about immediate repairs but are designed to provide long-term benefits, ensuring that the water system can adequately serve the community's needs now and into the future.
Currently, construction is in progress. Crews are working weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., ensuring that access to homes and businesses remains uninterrupted during this process. In instances where excavation takes place, temporary surface restoration will be performed initially, followed by permanent restoration once conditions permit.
Local contractor Lagco, Inc. is tasked with carrying out the work, and the project has been coordinated with local authorities to ensure smooth traffic management. Residents and motorists are advised to exercise caution in the vicinity of work zones, adhere to posted signage, and be aware of potential construction-related noise during active hours. Importantly, access for emergency vehicles and local traffic will be maintained throughout the project.
Daily cleanups at construction sites will occur, with comprehensive restoration of driveways, sidewalks, and landscaping planned upon project completion to ensure the area is returned to its original condition.
