Engaging Workshop 'Evening Insect Noises' to Learn About Hearing Changes with Family

Discovering the Importance of Hearing Changes

As we grow older, our perception of sound changes significantly, often without us even realizing it. Background of the Workshop

Currently, it is estimated that over 10 million people in Japan face challenges with hearing, particularly among the elderly who tend to lose the ability to hear high-frequency sounds over time. Age-related hearing loss can progress gradually, making it difficult to recognize the changes, ultimately leading to difficulties in communication with others.

To address this issue, Megane Top has created a booklet titled 'Evening Insect Noises.' This resource aims to shed light on the subtle changes in hearing as we age. By utilizing smartphone camera functionalities, families can engage in a simplified 'hearing check' while enjoying the various sounds of insects. This booklet is currently available in digital format only.

In an effort to raise awareness about the changes in hearing, Megane Top has been conducting workshops since 2022 at libraries, museums, and children's centers throughout Japan. Participants can experience individual differences in hearing while engaging in exciting activities, such as understanding how sound travels through visual demonstrations and playing games that involve identifying the songs of different insects. These experiences are designed to create a fun learning environment for both children and adults alike.

Future Activities

In addition to hosting workshops in Shizuoka, where Megane Top's headquarters are located, there are plans to expand activities to other prefectures, with workshops and exhibitions of 'Evening Insect Noises' scheduled. Our corporate philosophy centers on bringing happiness to all involved and creating smiles. We will continue to devote ourselves to supporting health and addressing various societal issues.
