Cereals Canada Releases the 2025 Wheat Crop Report



Cereals Canada has officially introduced its annual report focusing on the wheat harvest for 2025. This document is vital for both national and international clients who rely on Canadian wheat. The report sheds light on critical aspects such as milling performance, flour quality, and the overall functionality of the final wheat products produced in Canada this year.

Dean Dias, the CEO of Cereals Canada, expressed great pride in the quality of this year’s harvest. He stated, “Canada has produced another high-quality wheat crop with excellent functional properties.” With a goal of becoming the third-largest wheat exporter globally and the foremost provider of high-quality, high-protein wheat, Canada is expected to export approximately 27.4 million metric tons to over 80 international markets in the 2025-2026 cycle. The report assures clients that the quality and protein levels meet their expectations.

In terms of production, Canadian farmers harvested 36.6 million metric tons of wheat this year, predominantly classified as first or second grade. Despite facing variable growing conditions across the Canadian prairies, timely mid-summer rains contributed to yields that surpassed expectations. On the eastern side of Canada, consistent favorable weather throughout the winter wheat season resulted in high yields and impressive crop quality. The protein levels in the wheat were consistent with the average.

All wheat classes from the 2025 harvest exhibited good weights, and a majority of the western composite varieties showed above-average grain weight.

This year, Cereals Canada plans to extend its outreach initiatives associated with the new harvest by collaborating with 29 countries that imported $8.2 billion worth of Canadian wheat in 2024. Their team, in collaboration with members across the entire value chain, producers, and the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC), will present technical data regarding the 2025 wheat harvest in two webinars scheduled for November 18 and 19.

For the 2025 New Wheat Crop Report, the data was amassed through the Harvest Assessment Program, which traditionally focused only on Western Canadian wheat. This year marked a significant milestone as, for the first time, the program also included eastern wheat varieties in collaboration with Grain Farmers of Ontario. Elaine Sopiwnyk, VP of Technical Services at Cereals Canada, remarked, “This was a key year for Cereals Canada. The opportunity to analyze wheat from across the country enhanced our technical team’s expertise and optimized our process for this year’s New Wheat Crop Report.”

The completion and release of the New Wheat Crop Report happen annually in cooperation with the CGC, value chain members, and provincial producer commissions. During this year’s harvest season, Cereals Canada worked alongside exporters and the Ontario Grain Producers Association to gather representative samples from various wheat types, including Canadian Western Red Spring (CWRS), Canadian Western Amber Durum (CWAD), and Canadian Eastern Soft Red Winter (CESRW) varieties grown in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario.
